Hey pit, my band's going to be playing our first gig on either Oct. 1 or 2 (battle of the bands lol) and I'm really nervous about it all so I felt the urge to ask...

What should I expect from these things? Any tips for making it go smoothly without anything going wrong?

also, i know the basic stuff: practice a lot, make sure all the instruments are tuned and ready, etc.

If anyone's interested, we're playing covers of:
Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) - The Offspring
Today - The Smashing Pumpkins
Pork and Beans - Weezer

We'll do originals next year :3

Just that there's always this one fat kid at the back of the crowd booing.
Seriously, I've never seen a gig without a booing fat kid.

well, when your band is next up set the drums up back stage so you bring them on and eliminate putting the cymbals on stage taking time

Enjoy yourself engage the audience and loosen up, live you will get nervous its natural

Dont swear and act unprofessional, as battle of bands they rate our professional your guys play

Listen to what the sound guy says they are there to help you along, and even though it may be different to what you are use to, do not be a smart ass back if it not normal just deal with it

BUT on stage like i said just have fun move around engage the audience if mistakes happen dont care just keep going

have fun

Make sure you move around. Nothing's more annoying than a band just standing around playing all stiffly..unless you're in a jazz band, of course.

EDIT:

And this. Be prepared for the most annoying things to happen.

are there any tips out there from drummers who also sing

My drummer is the main vocalist for the band

seeing that there is no real front man, the other members do have to engage more

but just play as rehearsed still get into the music as the drummer.

it is different having drummer the main singer but if thats the way it is thats the way it is

also have back up vocals

I've only played one gig, and I was completely high, a little drunk and tripping on a threshold dose of magic mushrooms.

I have no input other than GET INTO IT. That's how you get a crowd going.

It helps to "seed" the audience; that means putting friends and fans in the audience to get the rest of the crowd into it.
#24
just let loose. try your best to include the audience cuz that always makes it more fun for them. and like with driving, always expect the worse to happen. mistake are mistakes, and just let 'em go, do NOT try to fix yur mistake. and always......ALWAYS imagine the audience in their underwear.

Let go, I have played on stage only 3 times, but each time I get up there I am nervous in the beginning, but I let go, and just play. Get into the music, you will feel alot more comfortable that way.
