So I have to write a paper on anything in Mythology. Id love to give more detail but the professor really didnt specify. From what I understand I think I have to find any story in Mythology and find a parallel to it in today's time. Can anyone give me any Mythological stories in which I can compare to today's times?

All help appreciated.

Oedipus Rex. DO IT MOTHERFUCKER!

And you can conclude your paper by discussing your own phallic character/oedipus complex....that should go well.

I would say look at the Greek's though, they have some truly awesome mythology. You could watch some Eddie Izzard too...his stand-ups "Dress to Kill" and "Sexie" will give you a real good overview of mythology....I remember those stand-ups getting me through a couple humanities exams

The Bible actually has a million parallels to mythology. Go to the history channels website and watch the episodes of Clash of the Gods they have online. You can also compare to many of the heroes to comic book heroes.

The Bible is referred to by mythologists as "Judeo-Christian mythology".

Anyway, do Icarus & Daedalus + "Melting Point of Wax" by Thrice.

1. Oedipus Rex, Antigone, etc. are not mythology.... They're plays
2. But go for Greek mythology. I'd say Prometheus would be the best one.

Thank you all for actually being mature and giving me some ideas. I am very grateful. If more ideas come to mind, please dont hesitate to post.

ps: Yeah I can actually use the Bible, and compare Christianity to the greeks beliefs, but it sounds complicated. Thanks for the idea though...even though you were trying to make a funny.

Trickster archetype (Loki, Coyote, Hermes, Prometheus, Raven...) vs. Sauron or The Joker.

Prometheus

he took fire from olympus and gave it to people. people then used fire to advance etc.
Prometheus was then punished for all eternity.

you could somehow relate that now. how about obama and the health care thing? or is that too controversial.

edit: fuck everyone already said prometheus!

do hercules

or you could be really generic and go for Achilles.

The vinegar tasters, its more spiritual stuff though so it may not fit, but it has massive parralells to modern times. I don't have the time to type out what its about but its interesting in my opinion.

I would parallel Icarus with the modern banking industry. When the 15:1 became the 30:1 and some other economic stuff happened, the banks started soaring too close to the sun.
