So I've been playing guitar for about a year. Im doing well with scales and chords however i find my thumb is always in great pain after playing chords. I usually play with my thumb wrapped for the most part around the neck. Is their another way i can hold my guitar to help.

Because you're holding the neck wrong. Almost always, your thumb should be somewhere on the back of the neck (not near the sides), and there should be air space in between your thumb and your palm (as in, only from the knuckle up should come in contact with the neck).
