This thread is for a guitar I'm building for a guy named Warren. Lets start with the name. As you will find out shortly, this guitar is based of the Star. The closest star to us is Sol. The Roman state-supported sun god was named 'Sol Invictus', or 'unconquered sun'

lets move on.

Specs.
LEFT HANDED.
BODY :Alder
TOP: Flamed Maple
NECK :Maple
FINGERBOARD :Rosewood, 27frets
INLAY : Wijay signature 1st-5th, dots on the rest.
SCALE : 24.75
JOINT : Bolt-on
TUNER : Schaller M-6 Guitar Machines - Black, 3L/3R
BRIDGE : Gotoh Hardtail Bridge - Black
PICKUP : (Front) EMG SAV
(Rear) EMG 89
CONTROL : Master Volume, Master Tone, coil split, pup selector.
FINISH: trans green, with black burst.
HARDWARE: black.

Mock up (quick from scratch photoshop.):

Lets get started. This will start with average progress, then pick up once parts arrive
ect.

Start time: September 24th, 2009, 10:51

Eew, hate the finish. I would want a really regal looking purple with some gold hardware for a guitar like this. But if your friend likes it thats cool. I really like the rest of the stuff though. Have you ever built a guitar before? All I've seen was your lego build TBH.

the green is good, but the burst is a bit to much. needs to be thinner imo.

but i dont like that shape :/

has anyone on gb&c made a ironbird?

You deserved this, Matt.

quite simuler to the shape your doing

in bright colours, they look so 80's! hair metal lol!

but you get a +10 for original shape, +20 for not a strat or RG, and +100 for not making a les paul, lol.

go you!

I like your shape (It's much better than that Ironbird up there), but it would look better if the horns were swapped IMO.

I actually like the finish as well, though I do agree that the burst could be a bit thinner. Is there a green fad going around here?

Our Sun's name is Sol

Isn't it the Sun? ... it's a star which we refer to as The Sun... Wait I just found it on Wikipedia. It has no official name. Odd...

And Sol Invictus was used as the name of a bunch of different sun gods.

If it was me I'd go with some Norweyan action. Sun personification goddess Sól. Win.

(Threadjacking. Sorry.)

Your build looks good. Are the people you are building for (I know you mentioned building for another person besides this person) paying well? If my build turns out well I might try and pitch a custom build to some of the better players I know.

the sun is a star. it is closer than Alpha Centauri....

Our Sun's name is Sol

I know that, and you know that, but our friend alpha centauri is refered to as the closest star to us, because we already know the sun is here. anyway...

good luck with this build! i'm sure everyone is expecting a lot, especially after the Paduak.

wow. looks great!

btw... Alpha Centauri is the closes star to us. but i guess you meant the sun.

Nope.

Alpha Centauri A (Rigel Kentaurus) is the closest star to our Sun.

And actually, Alpha Centauri is a System of stars (3 of them) being A, B and then Proxima.

The closest star to us (other than our Sun) is Proxima Centauri and it's closer by 587,863,000,000 miles (about a tenth of a light year).

Yep, 30 year old Star Geek

It isn't as heat resistant though, so with climate changes its likely to shift glue joints.
Titebond III is fine, but Original is foolproof

I guess you never read the horror stories of the builders who use II or III.

Yeah, it's working fine for you now..

From what I hear the fact that its waterproof means it never sets as properly as original and is there for more likely to creep over time.

haha jesus christ guys. you act like hes gonna be goin from -30 degree weather to 150 degree weather over night. yeah maybe the glue doesnt react as well to temp change but its not like if the weather warms up 30 degrees the guitar is gonna melt cause he used III instead of original.

I'm sorry I'm trying to help him, and give him advice, so that his future builds don't get messed up.

II & III both never fully set.Period.
No, it's not likely that it will mess up, however it can, and has happened to guitar builders in the past. Why take the risk? That's all I'm saying.

I dont wanner jump down his neck, he can do what he wants but glue is pretty important in guitar building, I'm not saying burn the guitar now but it's always good to use the best tool for the job if you can.

While titebond is repairable its going to be pretty anoying if any of the major joints creep, set neck, scalf joint, neck lam, fretboard.

Plus original is cheaper

yeah, theres just looking out for me.

and.. if original is cheaper.....

and also my old teacher told me tightbond 3 specifically for glueing the fretboard..i forget why he said this but it made sense. but for future stuff i will look into it, and next time im in the glue store il pick up some number 1, but im nto going to go out of my way right now.
