I like all the styles listed, if they do it good. I prefer a band that can do it all (such as Opeth) but I still like bands that just growl or just sing. however, I don't like bands that just scream all the time, it's cool to throw one in every once in a while, but not all the time.
#22
So wait, you've divided screaming and growling into two different genres, yet every other singing style, which is practically everything except metal, falls under the broad category of 'Normal'.
Stupid thread....

ok with most metal(death metal mostly)except the ultra brutal death metal pig squeals, gutteral's what have you..you get the idea
id prefer to listen to robert plant stuff(led zeppelin)god that man is awesome and well the more progressive(damnation)side of opeth the stuff with clean vocals/growls are great
#28
I like the style that involves singing and doesn't sound like you're trying to kill your vocal chords.

The voice of reason, it is so sorely missing.

If you're talking about the same voice of Reason that I think you're talking about, then I whole-heartedly agree. I love a good bass-baritone or bass voice.

I understand the difference between scream and growl, but really, if you're going to separate those two, which are essentially melismatic vocals, you should have taken the time to put some other options in there, like operatic, dirty, clean, whispery or what i was going to say before i saw the options which was warm vocals, such as Eddie Vedder's.
But hey, i don't really care, do what you want man...

Screaming/singing- Avenged sevenfold

I guess it can be best described as aggressive clean vocals. I don't mind growls but just not my favourite. This is why Symphony X is pretty much my favourite band. Aggressive but clean vocals + incredible guitar.

I like all vocal styles. Singing's my favorite, but I like the more br00tal stuff, too.

You know who has a great scream, but I never hear anyone talking about? Tomas Lindberg of At the Gates.
