Is it possible to play a tube amp with 8 ohm only output through a 4ohm speaker cabinet?
I'm wondering because there's a amp that i want to buy and i don't want to have to put a new cab for it, as the only speaker cab i have is a 4 ohm rating.

Possible? Yes.

Advisable? No.

If its rated for 8 ohms and you use a 4 ohm theres liable to be alot of smoke. You can usually go higher ohms but lower is a big no-no.

Using a cabinet with lower resistance than the head is rated for will cause the amp to work harder than you want it to, and will (eventually) destroy it. That would be a big waste of money. Don't chance it.
Is the cabinet you have a 4x12 by any chance?
