Hey guys. Basically, I'm trying to figure out what amp would suit my needs the best out of all of these amps:

EVH 5150 III (in white)

Mesa Boogie Trem-O-Verb (head)

ENGL Powerball

I've got someone who would definitely want my Marshall Bluesbreaker for the first two, but nothing definite for the Powerball.

I play thrash metal, progressive metal, shred, death metal, metalcore, classic rock, blues, jazz.

I want to be able to get tons of gain, heavy and tight low end, a 'smorgasbord' of tones

Influences: Megadeth, Animals as Leaders, Tosin Abasi, BTBAM, Born of Osiris, Metallica, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads.

Which of these amps do it best? Also, of the first two, which of those two do it best?

I think the EVH III would be a suitable choice, plus I think you'd be getting the best deal money wise by trading for it.
#6
Either the EVH or the Powerball would be great for what you play, just go and try them out

Check them all out? Then you will know which one you want.

I'm not stupid.

I've already tried the first two, but not the Powerball. I've heard phenomenal things about the Powerball though, so I was curious how it goes for those styles. I'm trying to get another opinion on the matter before I make a final decision.

I've never played that Mesa so I'm not sure how it would hold up with the other 2 amps.

Well, have you tried any of the other Mesa's (dual or triple rectifier)? This is supposed to be like the Dual Rectifier

Well I don't mean to sound like an ass when I say this, but:

How do they sound for the styles that I mentioned in the OP? I've heard lots of great things about all three amps.

I love the Dual Rectifier more than the Triple, but that's just me. Triple has way too much power. But I really think ENGLs are overpriced for their build quality and reliabilty, plus they gave the worst customer service in the industry and I would get the other two.

I only liked the rectifiers if they had a boost in front of them.

EDIT: Lol ENGL'S build and sound quality is amazing they are very reliable, but I do agree with the customer service it isn't always the greatest. People say that the Powerball is a very mid scooped amp (I didn't have a problem with mids when I tried it) if you like your mids maybe look into the invader or savage if you can up your price range.

I'd go for the EVH over the other two, more because the EVHes are a higher value and have a somewhat 'unique' sound in modern metal. Everyone and their mother has a Powerball and Recto-styled amp for br00t4lz, and the EVH would stand out better.

I'm concerned although whether or not the EVH can truly do those sort of styles that I mentioned before

If you only posted teh br00tz, I would have voted the Powerball. But you also posted classic rock, blues and Jazz, and the most versatile amp I've ever tried is the EVH 5150III, so that one.

Douchebag. Penultimate means the right before the last, as in the penultimate scene in a movie. I was hoping this would be the penultimate thread and have one more thread with two choices instead of three.

and yeah. AAL is my favorite band. Tosin Abasi is my guitar hero and idol.

I cannot get a ENGL Savage for the $1000-$1500 price range, can I?

Honestly, the Powerball sounds best for you. The mids are pretty scooped but it's tight as ****. The Recto's low end is pretty loose unless you throw an EQ in front boosting the mids and cutting lows and highs. The EVH is cool but it's got more of a Marshall flavor, which would be great for classic rock and blues. The Powerball beats it as far as I'm concerned for the metal genres and jazz. If you can, I'd get a Savage instead though. The mids are more prominent and to me, that's a good thing.

Well, I'm planning on doing some weird-ass plan with my current Marshall, that will inevitably end up with me getting Tosin Abasi's ENGL Powerball

I played an EVH not to long ago, Its a sensitive amp, the middle channel is heavenly. its a crunchy overdrive that is extremely sensitive to dynamics... maybe not the best for metal but its a uber fun channel to play on and would suit classic rock well. The over the top channel has tones of gain, so it should probably meet your needs. The clean channel is nice and clean, one of the better ones you would get out of an amp that can get as much gain as it can. However I tried it and I found that it was lacking something to its sound. Kinda like it was hollow sounding. I cant really explain it but you should definatly try it out, rather than deafly buy/trade for it.

But I guess cause I have no experiance with the other ones my vote goes to the EVH.

Whitechapel uses 5150 III's so YES it can do tight metal, my vote goes to Powerball or 5150 III

Best of luck
