Hey guys whats up. I have some questions about 2 Randall Amps- both the same price, $299.99-

>Randall G3 Plus Series RG75DG3PLUS Guitar Combo Amp
&
>Randall RX Series RX35DM 35W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp

Im looking for a mean, metal tone like Metallica, Maiden, Ozzy, etc, all that good stuff. Right now im rockin a 30W Line 6 Spyder III, and as for my axe, a newly customized Ibanez RG4EXqm1 with EMGs 81/85. After getting my new guitar setup, i get back to the Line 6 and it just feels as if the tone is lacking. So i was thinking about upgrading amps maybe to a Marshall or a Randall, when i came across these 2 amps ^^ and i have no idea how they are different.

Any input on my setup, info on those 2 amps. or which amp for me you think is best for me, that would be awesome.

Either one is good for what you want man; I've played them both. Randall makes the meanest sounding solid state combos like these in my opinion. I like the graphic EQ of the RX35DM but the other one is significantly louder...80 watts vs 35 watts. What else is different is that the G3 combo has Randall's "Valve Dynamic" technology which means that there is a 12AT7 tube driving the hybrid (overdrive) section of that amp. Each amp sounds great for what you want though; are you planning on gigging or is this just for practice?

it would be for practice/jamming with buddies. So the G3 is a tube amp? Ive never played on a tube amp before, are tubes good for metal and soloing or are they more of a fat, bassy tone?

G3 isn't a tube amp...it's a hybrid amp; it has only one tube which "drives" the overdrive channel, giving it tube tone without being full tube. Tubes are fine for metal/soloing for sure. Either of those amps would suit your purposes fine I would say. I would probably go with the G3 though just because you would be practicing with a drummer I'm assuming.
