Basically looking at buying a second hand one but read some bad reviews on it so was wondering what you guys thought?

Other option is probably a Laney VH100

both will be the heads don't know if either do combos but I'm movin' on up anyway

Anyway fave bands - ACDC, journey, led zep, sabbath, floyd, steelheart, opeth, megadeth.

Wouldn't mind triple channel either but not really needed.

Budget = up to about £700 for the head I guess?

probably sell my old amp and buy a second hand 1960A cab with the money from that.

advice? thanks in advance!

i agree with 311ZOwhatsisface. i strongly disliked the JVM 410 i played, it just didnt sound like a marshall. better off with the laney.
you know, ive owned 8 different guitars over my lifetime, and right now i have 3. i wanna know what the hell happened...i mean the picks and cables are understandable, they disappear into thin air all the time, but guitars?

In my opinion the JVM410H's sound excellent and are very versatile.

Here are some clips for you to listen to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw0QvDPRCD0&feature=related

(This video is particularly good, go to 5.13)

Imo it sounds so good that I'm considering getting one and yes I do have a Orange Rockerverb. They sound so good from clips that I might pop down a shop and try one, if it sounds as good as in these clips I'd consider selling my Orange already...

I'd like to think I could keep the Orange though and get the Marshall as an addition.

I've played the JVM410 and 210 and for me I just didn't care for it. The cleans on the 410 were nice but that crunch channel did nothing for me. Too 'fake' sounding. I realize it has it's sweet spots and yes there are nice clips out there but I'm not paying that kind of money to have a meh sounding drive. The QC seemed to be sub par too.

Can't see why though. I'll just wait until Rob Chappers posts his review of the JVM and you'll soon be saying how good it is...

70% of the people on these boards slating them probably haven't even tried them.

Not a fan of the JVM. Laney is a better choice IMO.

Oh I like Marshalls alright. I wouldn't have gotten a Splawn if I didn't like the Marshall tone. But my Splawn was $500 cheaper and better built

I played a JCM800 Slash Sig and a early 70's JMP lately at Guitar Center and just about crapped my pants. They were used, but also cheaper than the JVM.

And yes the Traynors are great cost effective Marshall type tones and super nice cleans.

I love my JVM get great metal tones and awsome cleans, Im running a 10 band eq, barber tone press. Plays awsome on low levels and very high levels, having the master volume set right helps the sound alot. Yes there are a few amps just as good for sure, never tried the laney im sure it rocks. I traded my drum kit for the 205h head, the dealer gave me a nice deal compared to **** guitar center.

Yeah, many even stopped hating the MS-2 since Rob made the demo.
Same for the MG I guess.

Maybe everyone will stop hating the new Marshalls after Rob made demos of each of this amps.

IMO, I think the JVM is a solid choice, especially if you want a variety of tones.

But, if you just want a simple two or one channel amp, and prefer the volume control on your guitar - look elsewhere. You can something cheaper.
But, JVMs are pretty good. I think I may aim to get one in the future [or a DSL, or an Orange]

I won't, because I've actually played and heard them with my own ears

Just because it sounds good/bad in a video, doesn't mean it does in real life.

Buy a 6100 if you want a versatile Marshall.

Just to try to keep this thread on topic the JVMs are expensive here in the States and my opinion is they are not worth it.

JVM410 head = $2,199
JVM210 head = $1,899
JVM205 combo = $1,999

If, I'm going to spend 2 Grand on an amp I would expect it to sound better.

Right. That's not the list price either, that's the sell price. The MSRP is for a 410 is $2,999.

I don't want to have 'squeeze usable tones' out of an amp that expensive.

I'm not a Marshall basher it's just that their current amps do not do it for me for the price.

Well, the US are not the whole world.

The price is better in Europe. But around here Mesas are terribly expensive.

JVM210 head = 1148€
JVM410 head = 1269€

Now the Mesas:

Yeah, sure, but they also cost nearly double as much as the JVM.
Most Mesas here cost about double as much as Marshalls.
Though, I guess the prices of ENGLs, Blackstars, Laneys are better than in the US.

Yeah, get the Laney, it's much better. I've never played either, I just like the Laney because it's the underdog company. 7 more people should post this as well, just because the first poster and the 6 subsequent ones said so.

See? I can do it too.

Seriously, JVMs are very good amps. I agree that the distortion is somewhat flat, but damn are they versatile. You'll be very happy with it. They can literally be used for any genre, and I've literally never heard of anyone having a problem with one.
