I tried The Gear for Metal thread, and didn't really get too much help. Basically, I need a tube amp for Melodic Death Metal, Gothic Metal, and Death-Doom Metal. I need something that I can gig with, since I recently joined a Melodic Death Metal band as a rhythm guitarist, but I need something that's quiet enough that I can use it at home and not get yelled at too much. I'd like to keep it around $1000 US Dollars, but I'd go for something more expensive if it really seemed like it'd be a step up. So far I was thinking about these:

http://www.beyondeleven.com/Krank-Rev-Jr-Pro-50W-Half-Stack-Guitar-Amp-p/krank-rev-jr-pro-half-stack-50.htm

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Peavey-6505-212-Combo-2x12-Guitar-Amp-481433-i1145625.gc

But to be honest I guess I really don't know what's out there that would be decent to use for those styles.

mesa triple rectifier dude. 150 watts of all tube metal. but its REALLY loud and more than 1000 dollars. I think its around the 1500-2000 range...

See, I'd love something like that, but for local shows and home use I just can't justify getting a Mesa and spending all that money. I appreciate the suggestion though.

Lol, actually I think you were the only one to respond, but the suggestions were both 100watt tube amps and that's not going to work for me. I can certainly go used, and I would stretch my budget up a bit, just give me a suggestion and I'll see if I think I can realistically justify it. And I'm located in Binghamton NY.

Check the Baron MII60 (or the I60L) and ask Dave if he could add an extra gain stage to it. a Randall RM50 w/ Ultra XL module and another module of your choice (spend some money to mod it later) is also a great choice.

but if you dont want to go there, go with the Rev PRO 50.

plus one to the krank, randall mts, or pv 5150/6505. any one should do. the mts is insanely versatile. ive seen the 50 watt combo used for ~$600.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

I second the vote on the Randall RM50. I have the RM80 which is a 212 version of the 50 and it is an incredibly versatile amp. Ultra XL is a good choice, but refer to this thread if you want to look into your other options; there is a link for soundclips in post 4: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1188551

Don't be afraid to get something mod'd. It is one of the best investments you can make with this amp. Pete and Rob are two great modders right here in the states; Pete is in Oklahoma and Rob is in New Jersey. Pete is okstrat on the MTS forum and Rob is Jaded Faith. I believe Rob can do a mod to the Ultra to give it Baron KT88 specs. Ask kylendm about it; he got the mod done on his.

Anthony is another great modder, but he is in the Czech Republic. You can send modules to his P.O. Box in California and within 4-6 weeks you will have an awesome module in your amp ready to rock 'n' roll.

As far as what modules/mods to get, that is up to you. The Ultra XL is great for all kinds of metal. The Blackface is a great clean. The Clean module is good too; i have one for sale if you are interested.

The 1087 (Pete's mod to the 1086) puts out one of the best sounds i've ever heard, but only truly shines when played with a guitar downtuned with thick strings (say...12's tuned to C). It is a great module to get if you are into really heavy death metal and always tune to D, C, or B (the lower the better ). If you want, i can probably get a few youtube vids up by the end of this week or next week to demonstrate the tone achievable through this module, as well as the Blackface and Clean. I can't promise top notch quality (no pro-recording equipment), but i'll do my best.

Anthony's 1666 is another great mod; uses the same base module as Pete's 1087, but is a completely different beast. It should handle heavy downtuned metal just as well as the 1087, but tonally sounds different. I can't really describe it b/c i have never compared the two, but ask around on the MTS forum and listen to Anthony's clips (in thread i posted above) to get an idea of the difference. Both are great modules, but each have their own unique personality.

If you like the recto tone, then Pete's Recto mod, Rob's Recto mod, and Anthony's Deadplate are all great modules. Pete has some vids of his on youtube and Anthony has some clips on his soundclips page. Rob says he is working on some clips but i haven't heard much lately; i may PM him to see what the status report is.

So many different options, it can be very hard to decide. If you get one of these, prepare yourself for an overwhelming dose of G.A.S., but don't let that discourage you. This is a truly great amp, and although there are other great amps for around the same price range, not all of them offer the same degree of versatility. If you get this amp, i can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed.

If you have any more questions, then feel free to PM me or ask on the MTS forum (i'm JKMV12 on the forum). You can also ask Shinozoku; he has helped me a lot in getting an MTS and without his input i would probably still be stuck with a Line 6 Spider.

Good Luck.

Sorry...tried to keep it readable.

I believe it was the Ultra module. He made a NMD thread a while back with a clip.....here we go: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1181233&highlight=New+Module+Day

Can't wait for the RM22 to come out. My RM80 is great, but even at 25W it is still a little over the top. I don't like the RM20 b/c of the one module thing.....the 22 will solve that. Also looking forward to the Ultra Curve, as well as the Diezel, Engl, and Acoustic modules. I also want Rob's Recto, Pete's Mesa Mark, Anthony's Mamba, Deadplate, 1666, Benzin, Custom 3..... ...what did i say...never ending G.A.S. Well what is most important for me right now is new preamp tubes; i don't need them, but i want to get a better tone and the EH's in it right now could probably be better.

Thanks guys, all this is very helpful, I'm going to definitely check out the Randall RM50. And WTF!! (Alfred, whatever you want to be called), are there any other sound clips of the Baron? The one I heard on the site wasn't all that impressive to be honest.
