What is your stand on a free/ universal health care system?

Personally i think it is a good idea to have a free system as well as pay alternatives for those who don't like the free option' kind of like the us postal service or public education.

I'm for it, it just needs to be handled well. It's not going well here. ERs are down the ****ter provincewide, not sure about the rest of the country.

Not free, since someone has to pay for it, but I do support a true universal system akin to Canada's, only better because it should be better.

In Ontario it's pretty good, but we also have a lot of violence here so they needed to make sure the ER's are up to snuff.

Public Option at the very least.

Shame it's too late for most of the Brits to be on or they could tell us about NHS.

How 'bout we do the reforms needed so that everyone can afford their own health insurance? If costs keep rising, even governments can't afford it.

At some point it becomes a self-licking ice cream cone. That's basically what happened when barriers to competition enabled the housing market bubble. Bubbles always pop.

Who's going to pay for the health care if we pop the government?

actually I heard that many Canadians are pissed at free health care because it takes them forever just to see a specialist.

I vote Canada pays. That seems reasonable.

There is no such thing as "free helthcare". Or "free healthcare" for that matter. The people still pay for it one way or the other, either through insurance premiums or through taxes. The only difference is, I would have to help pay for your healthcare, too.

As long as the governmental option is just the bare minimums, and will cover only basic costs of living (and maybe cancer treatments. Maybe), then there will still be lots of competition for private companies.

Okay so "free" was a poor word choice on my part but i honestly meant government run and universal plan
#28
Universal helath care works way better than you guys expect.

Sure, you might need to wait for very minor, non-threatening things, but anything serious and you're straight off to surgery. A family friend was just diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday, and the surgery is going to be on Tuesday.

If that's not good service for almost nothing I don't know what is.

This is a large part of why I'm against it. I don't mind helping someone who's in need, but I know how a lot of younger working-class people are. They would try to cheat the system and abuse it. So we pay for other people's kicks because they were too irresponsible to look after themselves. I work hard for the little money I make, and I'd rather it not be stolen.

Yeah, that sounds ignorant, but I can't explain what I think very well.
