Hey, everyone. I'm auditioning for the All Virginia Jazz Ensemble, and I'm still having problems with improv. I just can't figure out what scales to use for this song, so I can't improvise over it. Can you help me out?

This is the link to the site: http://vbodajazz.org/auditions.html
just scroll down until you see all the links of the left side, and click on the guitar PDF or mp3.

Thanks for the help.

You can pretty much get away with playing a Bb major scale over all the changes with some slight alterations for some of the chords. You should be targeting chord tones, which the Bb major scale will allow you to play with some slight alterations here are there. The changes are just ii-V-i's, and if you play jazz you should know what that means and how to approach playing over that kind of progression. If you don't I suggest you look it up, but try and nail the other portions of auditions because it won't sound convincing if you just improvise by noodling with one scale.

Thanks, I'll probably look it up.

BTW, I've got the other parts of the audition down, this is the last thing.
