So pit, what are your favourite music videos? I might be creating a music video for a local band for my media coursework and i have to do crappy research before hand. Anyone fancy telling me there favourite videos and then a paragraph or two on why they like it and what the video does well that i could take from it and use?

Yes i basically am saying help me with my coursework, but its always worth a try! Im sure i could squeeze a pit reference in there somewhere if we can agree on one!

supafunkyedit: before this turns into a youtube fest, the whole point of the thread is that you guys describe why you seriously like certain music videos as i said up there ^. If you aren't going to bother then don't bother posting?

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet

Porcupine Tree - Way Out of Here

These are two of my favorite music videos for a couple reasons. First reason is because they're from my favorite band. That one doesn't help you with your work, though.

Reason two: I think a good music video is one that complements the music in such a way that once you see the video, they become one in the same. The video should be a perfect visual representation of what I'm thinking of while listening to the lyrics. That's why I don't like it when a band just does a performance video for a song. Just seems boring and uninspired.

One of my faves is probably "Eagles Become Vultures" by Converge. Aside from being just an awesome song, the video's really cool. The song doesn't start until about a minute into the video where an awesome drum intro kicks off and everything turns red and black. The setting is in an office on the roof with the band playing in the halls of the cubicles. The setting just looks really interesting.

I went as Darth Vadar to a school dance before.

Sure I got kicked out, but the DJ played the Imperial March and I just felt badass.

It's probably Smashing Pumpkins' video for Siva, as far as I'm concerned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNqlikchzAk

It's energetic, complements the music and there is some occult symbolism thrown in there which incites you to figure it out, thus watching it again and again. At least that's what it does for me
I don't have a signature

I bet the video your making is for some sort of screamo/hardcore/metalcore/death metal/black metal/ metal band.

amirite?

The video for "Obscure" by Dir En Gray (Uncut version). Watch it and you'll wish you didn't. It's seriously f*cked up.

If you try watching some of the music videos on the FutureShorts channel on youtube, read the comments as people try and get all intellectual and explain the video and such.

Gotye - Hearts a Mess (a lot of people discuss this one, but the video isn't that impressive; nice song though)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TxYXvGgTF4

Gnarles Barkley - Who's Gonna Save My Soul (well well worth a watch, I especially like how the music isn't the entire focus of the video throughout)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhxK2IOywVE&feature=channel_page

UNKLE - Burn My Shadow (a brilliant concept, and the video just makes the song all the more tense)
