How often do you end up transposing songs to make them more comfortable for your voice? I found Hey Joe much easier to sing if you play it a tone higher, but it sounds a bit off, and I can't play the intro licks.

Is this a common practice with covers?

*I'm not helped by the fact that I can't afford a capo*
Almost all good singers will change the key of a song if it will help them to sing it better. It's easy for a guitarist or whatever to transpose, even on the fly, but a singer straining to reach notes will always sound not quite right.

Could I get some more talent in the monitors, please?

I know it sounds crazy, but try to learn to inhale your voice. www.thebelcantotechnique.com
