Ive been looking to replace my stock pickups on my Ibanez RG420EG and have decided that active pickups are the way to go but i have no idea which ones to choose . I'm looking for a pickup set up that can give me a heavy distortion like cky or a7x but that can also give me a cleaner sound like dragonforce. Any advice is welcome.

Bit of advice, next time you ask about choosing gear, try to avoid incorporating sky, a7x, and dragonforce in your original post.

heavy distortion like cky

err

when i think heavy distortion, i think bolt throwers "realm of chaos" album...
that shhht is so distorted you can hardly hear the notes...

but w/e isnt there only EMG's and SD blackouts?

i guess ill just say 81/85, seems to be DAMN popular.

ohh and what amp have you got there?
distortion pedals also can add distiortion, ya'know. try hooking two together, double distortion gets pretty fun with low'ass tuneings. aheh heh.

No No No No. SD Livewires for a start are also active. Batolinis, as well as a few boutique pickup makers and I'm sure there's a fair few more as well.
I don't think I've heard anyone on here talk about Bartolini guitar pickups... Only bass.
