So who is your Favourite Riff Maker?

Whose riffs make you wanna head bang so hard that you get permanent head injures causing you to have to visit the doctor twice a week and have to take pills for the rest of your life?

Mines are:

Matt Bellamy

- He has great riffs that are simple and effective
- The sound of his fuzz factory makes me want to jizz
- Example of his sexy riffs

*Plug in Baby
*The Groove
*MK Ultra
*Stockholm Syndrome
*New Born
............................mmmmmmmm

Tom Morello

- Again he has simple but effective riffs
- Has a great use of effects on his riffs
- Example of his sexy riffs

*Freedom
*Sleep now in the Fire
*Killing in the Name of
*Take back the power
*Bullet in the Head
............................mmmmmmmm

Matt Bellamy was my first thought as soon as I saw the thread title.

Actually, my first thought was some sort of riff-making-robot-machine. As soon as I figured that that's probably not what you were referring to, I thought of Mr. Bellamy.

First to post Jimmy Page? Yeah Page is just awesome, all his riffs are just mind blowing. Matt Bellamy is also something special but I think some of his riffs are pretty complex dude. Oh and John Frusciante and Jimi Hendrix are great too.

Riff? James Hetfield. John Petrucci. Matt Heafy. With guitars. Not Matt Bellamy with a keyboard.

Said it all. He's a great songwriter.
He really changed modern melodic death metal.

I think you should add the Amotts; great duo, great duo.

Yeh he does have some complex riffs. But I prefer the Micro Cuts type riffs. His melodies on he piano are very complicated

Daron Malakian failed when he began Scars On Broadway..i only heard two songs...but the riff in that first single they had...that was disgraceful to SOAD. Very..it was just sickening to think that the producer sat there and watched him recording that and went "Okay, we got a single!"

Lol,he is incredible though. I mean after 40 years in music he is still churning out new and exciting riffs aswell as making good old fashioned metal!

I'm guessing you mean the pile of manure named "They Say", which frankly made me realize how terrible Malakian is without the rest of SOAD.

Oh yes, i agree. The first band i was in was actually a SOAD-based cover band. I loved the **** to death. And him, he wrote fanastic riffs, even on the last 2 albums where the style changed, still loved the **** out of it. But now i don't know what to think of him..I'm just worried that if SOAD gets back together he won't be able to write such amazing riffs/songs. I hope he's just saving his good SOAD-style riffs for a SOAD reunion down the road.
