Exactly what the names imply.

A compressor will compress the signal which decreases the peaks and averages out the signal but also takes away dynamics.

Sustainer inceases sustain by a similar process. For more info, wikipedia/google work wonders.

Basically, it acts like a tube rectifier, with switches and knobs.

You should be able to dial anything from transparent sustain to a real clinical squish on your tone.
