So I go to GC this afternoon to pick up a ISP Decimator (don't really like GC but it was quick and easy). I got up to the counter and ask if they had any ISP Decimators in stock. The two guys behind the counter look at me like I am speaking gibberish. I then have to explain that it is a noise gate...

They type it in and yes they had 2 of them, and they go on to say they have never heard of it before...

WTF!

Haha ouch that sucks rofl. Atleast they weren't trying to rip you off.

However, other than guitar center, where else could you buy your guitars? I don't know one decent store around that sells guitars other than Guitar Center.

Although I did buy my Strats from them, not knowing anything else as I was brand new to guitar it's all I knew. Their are a few good local shops around here that I've gone to ever since. They've done all the work on my guitars, good guys and know what they are talking about.

The guitar tech there is AWESOME! They just don't stock that pedal yet and got tired of waiting. I like to support the local store over GC. My next guitars will come from the local shops.

they're like stoners who aren't stoned idk. wannabe stoners? they have the laugh! but yet theyre sober! i dont get it. i think i could easily get a job at GC, but i would hate working with the um...people.

i have met few cool employees at GC and all of them have been 50 yr old dudes with pony tails and hawaiin tee shirts. they give off that persona "yeah, clearly i dont care what i look like, but i do care that u dont waste ur money on one of our bogus sales."

That was a terrible story.

yeah its always the same when i got to guitar stores you ask for something and they dont know what you are talking about, then they try and show you up by telling you something (which you already know) and are suppost to act surprised.
#10
the guitar center where i live has a good number of people who work there that know what they r doing. but there still are a few there that have no idea what the hell they are doing.

Well I guess there are some haters around the pit... gee who would have figured that.

Funny that you felt compelled to read douche bags.

And then I would say, how many bands use noise gates?

Either way, it struck me odd at a guitar shop.

Actually at the GC I go to the people who work in the drum section seem to be smarter than the people working at the front counter.

Eek that just confirmed I've been on UG for TOO long. I know about GC and I'm pretty sure they're not even IN Australia

I've heard this too...
I really need to ditch UG for a year or so.. >> naah..

The equivalent of GC in Oz is probably Allans. They all know what they're talking about (mostly) but you still need to go in armed with some numbers and reviews and things. OR they will seriously just offer you the most expensive/**** thing they can.
Unless you're a regular (like me) and get to know the main guys that work there full-time.

My advice is: look in your local gig guides or in the Business sections at the back of your newspaper. Find a good second hand place that specialises in guitars, OR tage gear. Not both.
I find you need to have a shop you go to for guitar stuff, one for amps/pedals, one for sheet music, and one for each other instrument you play.
Really chat with the people there too, talk about how long you've been playing what kind of things you look for in your guitar and what you want to achieve. For em this usually gets on a more personal level and they can reccomend you things that are for YOUR needs rather than on a more general side.

People at Allans knowing what they're on about? Not in the Pitt St store, they're just stuck up twats there. Allans has some good stock in there but the employees just turn me off it completely, some are knowledgeable but are assholes because I'm a teenager. One time I was trying out a 2k amp and they told me to get off it unless I was buying it, (which I was seriously considering) but then they didn't believe me and told me to get out. What the hell? I should've gotten my money and waved it in the guy's face just before I left.

Anyway, I prefer Billy Hyde stores so many times more than Allans. The staff all know what they're talking about, are pretty chill and even if you can't afford the gear, they let you mess around on it. More willing to negotiate and work for the love of music, not the love of commission from Spiders and MGs.

Try asking them about Zvex or Way Huge.

I see them on the shelf.

I point to them on the shelf.

I describe in painful detail the object that I am pointing to on shelf that we are both looking directly at!

yeah it sucks to get your hands on the things you need here in the Netherlands, they never seem to have what you need, no matter what you need

especially in the south of Limburg....

People have internet in Limburg?

Same thing counts for my local store though. Sucks to wait 6 weeks for a pair of gold straplocks.

Internet is only for the educated people here, we're still living in a time where computers are rare and where women still have to stand up for men on the bus (if they have their husbands permission to get on the bus that is)

but besides that..
luckily there is always the musicstore in Keulen (Köln for the germans among us) which has quite a lot in store (if they don't have to order it, cause then you'll still have to wait for a month at certain times
