I'm not sure how to write this, but whats something that ruins a good song. For example, when James Labrie starts rapping in Honor Thy Father.

Not really.

Hehe, I find that part awesome actually...

But yeah, bad vocals or a song structure that just doesn't make sense usually ruin it for me.
#4
I believe I've seen a similar thread before, I don't remember from when.

In Whole Lotta love, that part around the middle with the sneeze where only the drums were playing, that ruined the song IMO.

Good for you.

Probably when they change from minor to major in the end of a song, or vice versa

over use of minors, for example:

b|-16----14-------|
g|-19----17-------|

i forget what those are called, but god do they destroy a song fast when overused

Clipping or over-compression. Or clipping and over-compression at the same time.

Unnecessary swearing, too.

To me, bridges really make or break a song. If a bridge starts off really well, but trails off, it completely ruins the song.

Why must there be a breakdown in every death/grind metal song? I mean I don't like the music anyways, but that really breaks it for me.
#25
Swearing every second line just because the singer can.
A song that lacks a proper structure and is all over the place.

Har du någon poäng eller är du bara allmänt korkad?

Så vitt jag vet är väl musik en fråga om åsikt och bygger således inte på fakta. Därmed tar jag mig rätten att tycka att metal suger.

Blast beats and break downs. Nothing wrong with a blast beat or a break down, but if EVERY song on your album features both, it's REALLY repetitive and boring. Repeating one thing over and over doesn't make every song as good as the other.

Also bands that try to be al heavy then they have the typical "melodic" clean vocals. Again, clean vocals can be amazing but most of the bands that have harsh and clean vocals have the exact same approaches and very similar clean vocals. And again, NOT EVERY SONG needs this on your album.

Finally, many modern rock bands that make every song of theirs those crappy cliche ballad-like songs with four chords the entire song (and usually the same four chords in every song of theirs). Most modern rock songs could actually have potential if they didn't have the exact same choruses.

...
the fingering is the difference
If you have a seven string its:
e
b
g
d
a
E
B
if you have 6 string tuned to B its:
b
f#
d
a
e
b

drop B would be:
C#
G#
E
B
F#
B
