So... I'm about to buy one of these pedals but can't decide which one I want.
I'm not going to use the pedal as a boost, and I'm playing mostly rock/blues/pop and some jazz. By other words; I want a versatile pedal that can stand alone as overdrive.

What pedal would you choose for me, and why?

have you considered something other then Boss?

out of those two, I would take the SD-2 - however its a good idea to expand outside the relm of Boss pedals, its kinda like driving a Civic - everyone's got one.

whats ur budget?

a digitech hardwire tube overdrive or fulltone ocd is better than those two
or u could go for a danelectro coolcat transparent drive, its a copy of the fulltone ocd

The Dano TOD is a good choice, I use one. (copy of the Timmy OD)
The Dano Drive is a little more aggressive (copy of the Fulltone OCD)

I also have both the OD-3 and SD-1.
The OD-3 is thicker sounding, with a looser, fat sounding gain.
The SD-1 is thinner sounding, but has a tighter more focused overdrive.

Well. I know I could choose between a bunch of other overdrives. But I am an acoustic guitarist that play some electric when I have to.. that's why I don't want to spend a fortune on pedals.

Are these Coolcat and Dano-overdrives better than the Boss's?
(Cause they are mad ugly...)

I used my Boss pedals for a number of years, 5 or 6 at least. I don't use them anymore since I bought the Dano TOD. Are they Ugly? I guess they are a bit weird looking. But I don't mind.
But I like the SD-1, and for $50 new....that's alright.
If you prefer Boss, take a serious look at my favorite Boss pedal, the Blues Driver. It can do everything both the SD-1 and OD-3 can do, and more.
