Slash chord = chord/bass note

ex: D/C

That still doesn't explain.....post a tab of what you mean

Experiment. Just play a chord and change the bass note of it til it sounds like something you like. I "make up" these kinds of chords all the time.
#9
it is a regular d chord but you also would play the note C on the second string ....

use your brain to tab...

I can't believe people don't know what slash chords are.
Tonnes of songs have them dude, what kinda music you like? Jeff Buckley used them alot, so does Damien Rice.

Oh and just about every fingerpicked song has them.

Opeth use alot of weird chords. Checl some of their tabs. Alot of them sound really nice. I have no idea what they are though.

Here is the simple answer.

It is a chord where the normal root is not the lowest note so a different note in the chord such as the 3rd 5th 7th or whatever is in the bass instead.

Please correct me if im wrong?

That's right but if I was being really picky I'd say the bass note doesn't have to come from the chord itself but usually does.

EDIT: ^ no it's not like modes, just gives chords a slightly different sound.

I'm going to go with "Freepy".

And, I just tried that chord out (or, at least how I think it would be played), and it actually sounds kind of cool.

anyone want to look at first post ... :-P the pit is failing me except for one guy.
#28
it's a chord with a different bass note like D/F#
and as funny as F/Am is, that would not be correct

Yes you are, it's usually only the 3rd or 5th though.

The correct term is an Inverted Chord

Could you tab out how that would be played, for reference?

slash chords? i didn't know what's what people call them? in reference to a "slash chords" i would just say "play an F with a C in the bass" idk... are they really called slash chords or is this just some sort of guitar slang? haha.

Well you were asking for a song with chords in it - it's so vague I could suggest anything.
Led Zeppelin (Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is the one that is a great example but also Stairway to Heaven)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way Album (lots of texture in the music, often created by inverted chords.)
Beatles - You can't go wrong, they've used them a hell of alot.
John Mayer - Mainly his acoustic stuff, Neon perhaps?
Why the hell am I doing this - You won't look up any of this stuff.

G/Dsus4add9

....Smartass

FAIL.

It's chord/bass note, not chord/chord. Dsus4add9/G would work.
