Hi Pit, I was just listening to some jams when I thought about how certain songs' lyrics are special to me. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this. So, post the song, the lyric from the song that you identify with/has special meaning to you, and why.

I'll start it off.

Dream Theater - Trial of Tears: "I've never wasted all those years, they're not worth their time in tears." I recently went through a breakup from a long-term relationship.

Bobby McFerrin - Be Happy: "Don't worry, be happy". I'm a chill person, and not much gets to me (including that breakup).

Iron Maiden - Different World: "...I think I'll take a hold of whatever comes my way, then we'll see what happens, take it day by day... Tell me what you hear, and then tell me what you see. Everybody has a different way to view the world." The first part is because I don't really have a day plan, I just kinda go with the flow. The second part is because I realize that everyone views the world differently and we should respect eachother's opinions.

Go. This has potential for great discussion.

My Last.FM
osXtiger I'm'a let you finish - Kanye (dick-head) west.

"This is where you prove your worth." A brother's dare, that devil's smirk. "Oh, this is the way it will always be." A kid brother in the shadows of a cold heart's legacy. Oh, this is where we see who runs first. it's you and me and the train. The steel tracks and the dirt. Oh, you can never live up to me." And so he stood trembling, waiting for smoke above the trees.

- Defeater

If you can't figure this out...
This may be a bit lazy, but every song on Converge-Jane Doe.
It may be difficult to listen to and try to pick out what he says, sure. I mean, jeez, it's my favorite album of all time and I even find it a bit challenging. But on paper, the lyrics describe all the possible ways a terrible relationship can turn, and as sappy as that may sound, they are absolutely beautifully written in some instances. For arguments sake, I will post one song. The ending song, Jane Doe:

These floods of you are unforgiving
Pushing passed me spilling through the banks
And I fall
Faster than light and faster than time
That's how memory works
At least in the dark where I'm searching for meaning
When I'm just searching for something
I want out
Out of every ackward day
Out of every tongue tied loss
I want out
Out of the burdening nightsweats
Out of the rising seas of blood
Lost in you like saturday nights
Searching the streets with bedroom eyes
Just dying to be saved
Run on girl, run on

These particular lyrics mean so much to me because they helped me keep me thinking straight when I was in a rough relationship that was more than just "boo hoo this isnt working out", but I'll save that for another day for the relationship thread =P
"I wanted freedom bound and restricted, I tried to give you up but I'm addicted" used to apply to me. Now it's more like "And if you feel how I feel please tell me that it's real"
Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
"We sailed on together
We drifted apart
And here you are by my side"
(Open Arms by Journey)

"Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscovering you "
(Faithfully by Journey)

Totally cliche but oddly personal for me. They both were my ex and I's songs but we broke up back in March because of distance. We're talking about maybe getting back together and everytime I hear those songs it reminds me that sometimes two people will drift apart and then inexplicably find each other again. It's amazing becoming friends with him and remembering what I loved about him in the first place, all over again.

/cliche mush
(That's right he said, that's right he said it)
( Have another drink and drive yourself home)
I swear, you have no idea
( I hope there's ice on all the roads)
The jealousy that became me thinking
( And you can think of me when you forget your seat belt)
(That's right he said)
( And again when your head goes through the windsheild)

theres no i in team-taking back sunday.
I am a nice guy amd i like The Adicts and cupycakes!
Joy-Against Me!

In passing I am asked, 'Do you believe in a God?'
I shrug off the answer, continue to get high
all u can eat - ben folds: these are my favourite lyrics of all time. i would give up everything i have ever owned if i could have written this song.

i didnt understand - elliott smith: "theres nothing here that you'll miss. i can guarantee you this is a cloud of smoke, trying to occupy space. what a ****ing joke."

poor you - daniel johnston: whole song

song to the siren - tim buckley: "im a puzzled as a newborn child, im as riddled as the tide. should i stand amid the breakers, or shall i lie with death my bride?"

and, obviously, anything that i write
Clocks tick. Your days are numbered in low digits.
You look suspicious - suspect niggas is bitches,
Get chopped up, grade-A meat, somethin' delicious

Jesus christ - Brand New

Although I'm sure it applies to a ****load of people.

Jesus Christ, that's a pretty face
The kind you'd find on someone that could save
If they don't put me away
It'll be a miracle

Do you believe you're missing out?
That everything good is happening somewhere else
With nobody in your bed
The night is hard to get through

And I will die all alone
And when I arrive I won't know anyone

Jesus Christ, I'm alone again
So what did you do those three days you were dead?
Because this problem is gonna last
More than the weekend

Jesus Christ I'm not scared to die
But I'm a little bit scared of what comes after
Do I get the gold chariot
Or do I float through the ceiling

Or do I divide and pull apart
Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark
This ship went down in sight of land
And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands?

I know you're coming in the night like a thief
But I've had some time, O Lord, to hone my lying technique
I know you think that I'm someone you can trust
But I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'll try to nail you back up
So do you think that we could work out a sign
So I'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try
I know you're coming for the people like me
But we all got wood and nails
And we turn out hate in factories
We all got wood and nails
And we turn out hate in factories
We all got wood and nails
And we sleep inside of this machine

"all we need is just a little patience..."

just broke up with my girlfriend of 10 months that I am lost without. That was kinda our song and was especially meaningful when she went back to germany. Long distance blows.

Call me troll, call me psychopath. In the end, I shall stand above you all as you drown in a pool of sex and filth. It will explode your corrupted bodies, and I will walk above the wreckage as a pure man.

Haggard13 i are impressed
I came in your mouth and broke your nose it's true
I came in your mouth, but you wanted me to
Well, you were just looking for something to do
So I came in your mouth, ah, and darling you liked it
You liked it a lot

So I scummed on your hair
But you said that wasn't fair
You know I tried to hold you tight
But you leaned to the right

So tender, my dear, you should have listened to me
But there was so much when you reached out to touch
Adhesion occurred and your vision was blurred

That's when I came on your face
And also every other place
This strange material went
As over you bent (doo doo)
Yes, you bent over and

I came on the wall
And all the pictures on it started to crawl
Toward the holy water thing down the hall
And I filled it all
It Must be your skin
That I'm sinking in
It must be for real
'Cause now I can feel

And I didn't mind
It's not my kind
And it's not my time
To wonder why

Everything's gone white
Everything's grey
Now you're here,
Now you're away

I don't want this
Remember that
I'll never forget
Where you're at

Don't let the days go by

I'm never alone
I'm alone all the time
Are you at one,
Or do you lie?

We live in a wheel
Where everyone steals
But when we rise
It's like strawberry fields

I treated you bad
You bruised my face
(I) Couldn't love you more,
You've got a beautiful taste

Don't let the days go by
Could've been easier
On you
I couldn't change,
Though I wanted to

Could've been easier
By three:
Our old friend fear,
and you,
and me

Don't let the days go by, oh,

Bad moon, white again
Bad moon, white again
Bad moon, white again
As she falls around me

I needed you more
(As we) Wanted us less
I could not kiss
Just regress

It might just be
Clear, simple, and plain
Well, that's just fine
That's just one of my names

Don't let the days go by
Could've been easier
On you
You, you

Lazarus, by Porcupine Tree:

As the cheerless towns pass my window
I can see a washed out moon through the fog
And then a voice inside my head, breaks the analogue
And says

"Follow me down to the valley below You know
Moonlight is bleeding from out of your soul"

I survived against the will of my twisted folk
But in the deafness of my world the silence broke
And said

"Follow me down to the valley below You know
Moonlight is bleeding from out of your soul"

"My David don't you worry
This cold world is not for you
So rest your head upon me
I have strength to carry you"

(Ghosts of the twenties rising Golden summers just holding you)

"Follow me down to the valley below You know
Moonlight is bleeding from out of your soul
Come to us, Lazarus
It's time for you to go"

Complete Atomic Basie by Count Basie.

Ask me shit: formspring.me/howthiswork
She was my sun and now the light has faded away
Night condensing around me, leading astray
Shining image torn down, remembrance of her fades
Left but anguish and shame to haunt me in the shades
No one wins tonight
No one gets a closure
No one walks away victorious

But don’t forget me
Don’t you forget me
Burn a candle for me when you can
For the part of man
Is to take the sombre path
Stumble in the dark
Stray amidst the dust and ash

Like forgotten ghosts
Drifting in the driving wind
Dashing towards the void
Whirling blindly through the night

Like water flung from the highest cliff
We fall,
and fade away
Down into the unknown
Still at night I see her figure
Flickering on moonlit glades
But passing is the hope she's giving
Just a faintest breath of air and she's gone again

Pretty much anything from Insomnium.

Oh, and a lot of Rise Against lyrics have personal meanings to me.

C'mon sucker lick my battery.
