I am currently updating my rig. I have a randall Rh-200 head, esp m-302, boss mt 2, boss ge 7. i use the ge-7 eq in the effects loop of the randall in a scooped v to tighten up the sound. i just ordered a esp v-401dx. i was thinking about buying a 5150, ibanez ts9, and a boss ns-2. i am going to use the ts9 and ns2 to boost the gain on the front of the 5150. I know a lot of bands do this but right now i cant find a 5150. so would using the ts9 and ns2 on the randalls gain channel work for know? I know the ts9 work great with a tube amp but what about solid state. i only need a little more saturation on the randall to be happy with it. so will it work for a few months until i find a 5150. Dont give me crap about buying a guitar before the 5150, i need a guitar cuz the m-302 switch is craping out, and i have a gig on monday with no one who can repair it before then. I also use 2 different tunings so i need a second guitar.

Hey I seen you live in Lorain. (I live in Canton)If you got a way to get to Columbus. It needs some pots replaced. But a guys got a 5150 on CL for $450.00. I guess the amp still works but some pot's still need replaced.

Canton>> http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/1375158340.html Try and talk him down a bit.

I don't know what your budget is but these are just some ideas hopefully they will be of some use. Also don't be afraid to travel a bit to get some gear. I went to Toledo to get my Recto. But I also got it for $850.00.

If you ever get a chance get down to Woody's in Kent. It's definitely worth the trip.

And to answer your Question I don't think a tubescreamer and SS amp will give you anything but noise. IMO Usually when people run tubescreamers or OD Pedals in front they are just maxing the level and keeping the gain off. I've never personally tried it with a SS so I cannot say what the results may be.

Good Luck,
If you start a reply with: I have never played one but I have heard good things about it! Your opinion is invalid.

If you're looking for something to use as a boost grab yourself a DigiTech Bad Monkey. IMO it is a much better boost than the TS-9 (doesn't color your tone as much); however the TS-9 makes a much better OD.

i seen a whitechapel rig that used a 5150 III(iknow its different than the originals) with a maxon od9 and boss ns-2 in front of it. he had the tone at noon, level maxed, and gain fully downon the ts-9.the gain on the head was ste set to about 11 o'clock. and thats how i intedn to use the rig. just some band that use this setup are job for a cowboy, the black dahlia murder, whitechapel, all that remains, and Cannibal Corpse, god forbid use a similar set up w/ diff amp and od.
