I am doing a report in english class, and am asking "Does listening to Metal Negatively Effect Children's Lives?". Not like, hearing defficiency, but things like, supposedly turning kids to murder, suicide, satanism, etc.

Yes. First time I listened to an Iron Maiden album I killed my dog.

In other words, don't be an idiot and pick a topic that's not retarded.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

That's just ridiculous. On the other hand, I heard that most intelligent kids listen to metal instead of pop.
makes sense.

I don't think so at all. In my experience it's helped me be more open to other ideas, is an outlet for aggression, a hobby (guitar) and in general helped me appreciate the person I am....and if people don't like it, "f" them. A little darkness in life is a good way to understand the world around you, there's so much to it. But things like murder and all that, that's something the person has with or without metal...that's being a product of their environment, how their raised and that stuff. It would be like saying Rap will make people do drive bys and run girls...don't buy that either. Blaming music for peoples screw ups is a way for those who should be responsible to not fault themselves...it's just bogus.

Of course it fucking doesn't.

Might want to learn the difference between 'effect' and 'affect' since it seems fairly central to your essay.

That is as stupid, if not stupider, than OP. Good one.

Anyone who honestly believes that is a complete fuckwit.

not once has a child EVER listened to a metal song without committing mass murder or suicide as a teenager

i did a report on this in hs. it does not cause new emotions and things in childern. Judas priest, ozzy osbourne, and Mariyln manson have all been sued due to ("subliminal messages") in their songs that supposedly kids to kill them selves and most imfamously, shoot up columbine. all the chrages were dropped but the negative image still remained. I have been listening to metal since i was a baby. and i am one of the nicest people. But music doesnt really change your personality enough to do tht to people. and also, it has been scientifically proven that country music is the most depressing music and is the most likely to cause suicidal thoughts and tendencies.

i dunno really, but seriously, there has been studies into the music choice of the most intelligent kids around, and the majority listen to metal. its an odd theory, but strong evidence has been given for it.

also, for technical metal music, eg: between the buried and me, necrophagist etc, you need to really understand the music, if you see what i mean, because of how complex it is. now im not trying to be in any way offensive, but you've got to be pretty smart to properly appriciate the music. thats the same with classical, or jazz, maybe you could tie that in?

it can work the opposite way to, here in england, the really stupid people, or the chavs as we like to call them, listen to really simple music. some of it is really good and catchy but again, most of it is really simply structured.

i think i've pretty much done your essay, looking back, sorry for the long post, but i hope it helped

I started off listening to classical and playing the viola. First time i heard melo-death i **** my pants at the awesomeness.

Me and my buddies go around burning churches and killing Christians every Sunday morning as part of our heathen ritual.

Torch in one hand, boombox blasting blasphemous metal in the other.

He should record some black metal, with lyrical themes regarding not only National Socialism, but also grammar.
