im writing a song in D and it is almost done but i need to know some arpeggios i should use and my theory knowledge isnt really that good. i use a dm arpeggio and a gm arpeggio and theyre start on the 5th string b/c im in drop d tuning. im going for a metal sound so can someone tell me what others would sound good.

well if ur using dm and gm then ur key is d minor so u can use d minor Edim fmaj gm amaj Bbmaj and cdim

For the metal sound you'd want to use the scales that's dark sounding. That would be like the Phrygian or Locrian modes. Even Dorian or Aeolian, they're all minor modes.

2. It's totally unecessary to bring up modes.

TS, your song probably has an (possibly only implied) chord progression. Try recording/GP/Powertabbing your song and seeing what chords sound "right" over you song. Once you've found your chord progression you can use those arpeggios.
