I decided to buy a practice chanter with a practice bagpipe after hearing people play the bagpipes while i was out. Is there anything i need to know about owning bagpipes? I plan to buy a full set pretty soon, but i have no idea what i'm doing.

Any tips?

Ugh I have no idea what possesses people to do this, they are by far the worst sounding instrument, it literally is a full blown attack on that sense.

Oh and just get a teacher, you'll advance way faster dude.

i play the bagpipes so heres a few tips...

1) learn the chanter first using a book and cd
2) read books on how to maintain a full set
3) gradually move on to a full set to help build stamina
4) enjoy playing lol

They're expensive, and you have to take good care of them.

Also, strengthen your lungs.

A lot.

This is true, especially with the number of people that like to throw on an irish or scottish accent when they've had too many drinks.

I don't understand anyone who says that bagpipes sound awful.

I think we like them because we're from the Maritimes.

So does everything.

Bagpipes make a great sound track to my plaid wearing and lobster eating sessions.

Which reminds me, I need to pick up a pack of Alexander Keith's.
