I'm a little short on money, so for my build, I want to see what I can get for cheaper.

Dimarzio Ultrajazz
Fender SCN
Fender 60's wind
Nordstrand NJ4 (the original, pricey option)
SD Quarter Pounder

I want a solid thump capability, a great chimey honk, basically pickups naturally tough in 100hz and 800hz.

I'm not a big SCN fan, but I've gotten multiple pushes in that direction.

the more it can cut, the better.

It got really nice thump, might have been his Markbass amp though.

Not sterile Humanity, EMG's are transparent, they don't have character, like Transparent amps, there very dynamic though and have great range. Don't rule them out yet.

As i reckon I said before my favorites are still the Nordstrands, and IMO worth it. After that i would go for the Fender ^0's, haven't used them(IDT) but 60 reissue fenders appeal to me, so those are my def second., I would rule out Seymour Duncan and SCN, you dont like the SCN's and the SD's are defiantly of lower quality and sound, so the Dimarzio comes 3rd. All IMHO

pwrmax: I think most basses will thump through a markbass. I record DI, Markbass is a luxury I don't have access to.

fatgoogle: do not tell me to buy EMG, I have bad experiences.

I would love the Nords, but I just lack funds, I'm leaning towards the Dims and the 60's atm.

Nope just didnt think you were anything of a traditionalist.

But yes better to play it safe, i reckon it will sound great with the woods. And then you and chris can have a fight to death for the honour of building me a bass.

I would say the QP's used by a lot of bassists ranging from the likes of Ian Grushka of NFG to the likes of Steve Harris of Iron maiden which gives a good indicator of their overall versatility.

But as far as versatility goes i know these are good and they are what im putting in my p-bass project :P
