Inspired by that thread about "are there people in your area that also listen to metal" or something like that, since I guess it assumed that everyone here likes metal.

It's apparent that a lot of people here obviously do like it, but I haven't seen anyone yet who dislikes it outright...so I was wondering if there was anyone here like that.

By anyone like that, I mean someone like my mom, who pretty much hates distorted guitars in general...

Anyone?

I enjoy some metal, but wouldn't consider it to be my favorite genre
If it were socially acceptable, I would drape myself in velvet.

I can't stand the tone of a lot of metal, but i judge every song by its merits.
I am a big fan of post-metal though.

Oh and also:
it may shock you to hear I like ONLY St Anger. I can't stand most all other Metallica.

I can't really call myself a metal fan anymore. My tastes have just moved on. If it's somewhat melodic I'll listen to it but otherwise count me out.

sorry, rough throat.

Anyway, I've never been more than semi in to it. The heaviest thing I have on my iTunes now is Korn, which i'm regretting downloading.

If I'm depressed I'll listen to it for hours! However! If I'm in an okay mood then it's whatever

When I think of metal, I think Black Sabbath, Ozzy, etc.

So yes, I really dig metal.

But the stuff that goes as metal around here?

No. I am not a fan.

Personally I love most sub genres of metal, but I hate most Nu metal and rap metal bands with a passion. Metal is really diverse, I really doubt there's anyone that can hate ALL metal, it can basically incorporate jazz, classical, folk, clean vocals, growls, screams (you get the picture).
#24
I don't really like the moar extreme (br00t4l or kvlt the correct metal adjective?) varieties, but can appreciate the instrumental work and laugh at the vocals.

This although I can listen to a bit of it on rare occasions. I hate how so many threads on UG are about metal, particularly in the GG&A and electric guitar forums, most of the threads are metal orientated.

Death - Skeletonwitch - Metallica - Judas Priest - Iron Maiden - Becoming the Archetype - Slayer - Amon Amarth - King Diamond/Mercyful Fate - Megadeth - White Zombie.

Yeah, I'd have to say I am a fan.

If you don't like ANY metal you don't like music. Cutting out a whole genre is just ridiculous. It would be like saying that classical music was unbearable to listen to, or that the Beatles weren't important, or that Jazz and Blues are worthless.
#31
I can't stand metal, I need something i can remember in my head, indie rock, britrock, even blues ahead of metal. But just my opinion. Oh and I think metallers look silly with their long greasy hair and ill fitting teeshirts. But I do have some respect for some Metallica, maybe even some Slipknot. But generally no.

I wear a plain white tee and nice jeans to every Metal concert for just that reason. Lol.

(and short hair)

If my band gets to playing gigs (and we are hard rock / heavy metal) I'm going shirt and tie. Business attire minus the jacket.

Nope, not into metal, more for darker (not heavier) music when I'm in a rough mood (ex. The Cure, Radiohead, The Horrors, Muse), and when I'm in an OK mood, it's pretty much whatever (in the rock genre). Hardest thing I've got in my iTunes library is Apocalyptica (CD from a friend, listened to each song once) and Blind Guardian (pretty much the same...)

EDIT: I've just thought a bit more, and I've realised what I don't like about metal... I just see no reason to be so agressive in music, and wanting to be faster/heavier, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about volume (noise fan myself). I just don't see a reason for it, I'm more for heavy emotions in songs, and songs that relate to me than heavy songs with lyrics about rape/murder or lyrics calling up everyone to fight...

That's bull****, you're only cutting out one genre. Sure it's stupid to ignore the whole genre completely but disliking one genre does not mean you don't like music.

I'm going to have to disagree entirely, I'm a fan of mellow rock, indie rock, acoustic music, etc etc etc. thats pretty much all i listen to(i do listen to other genres as well but mostly the ones i listed)... and well im a huge fan of music in general and I've managed to avoid being a fan of any band classified as "metal" Oh and the Jazz and Blues comment well those genres laid down the foundation for what we listen to today and anything thats come out today so i know they aren't worthless, and well the Beatles are the Beatles and that needs no explanation

I'll make clear though, I'm not one of these people who whines about it being too loud or not being able to understand people when they growl or shout though, as I like noise rock and a lot of hardcore and related genres. It's just the tone of a lot of metal I can't stand.

Roughly same situation. Almost all hyped metal bands suck. Trivium, BFMV, etc. I'll listen to Oceansize, Mastodon, Kong and very occasionally Metallica, but not much else tbh.

Even if something isn't worthless, there's no law saying that you HAVE to like it, is how I see it.

I mostly use metal nowadays to wake myself up on the bus ride to school, went through a huge metal addiction stage last year though haha

now it's mostly RHCP for me, and a bit of classical. I have to thank metal for that though, because I think it's helped me get into classical music better (listening to specific techniques rather than the song as a whole) and also makes me want to practice more.
