I have an Ibanez that has an edge III trem, and I'm really starting to get sick of it. It never stays in tune, I cant seem to get a string height/action that I like and it's a pain in the ass to adjust. My problem is that I love everything else about my guitar, the feel, the sound every thing else is great, but the trem. Are there any options other than blocking the trem as in can I get a hardtail bridge that will fit the route? Am I doomed to an eternity of bad bridges? or should I just get it professinally set up and never touch the thing again? help please!

You could replace the Edge III with either:
A Gotoh LFR
An OFR
An Edge Pro.
Current Gear:
LTD MH-400 with Gotoh GE1996T (EMG 85/60)
PRS SE Custom 24 (Suhr SSH+/SSV)
Ibanez RG3120 Prestige (Dimarzio Titans)
Squier Vintage Modified 70s Jazz V
Audient iD22 interface
Peavey Revalver 4, UAD Friedman BE100/DS40
Adam S3A monitors

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Is there such a thing as a heavy riff with out chugging on the e string?

This is because you don't know how to set it up. Have you looked at Ibanez's suggested setup? That works fine for me, it will just take some practice.

There are few simple solutions if you want to make your life easier. The first option, a tremsetter will help if you use the trem. My suggestion would be to get a tremel-no, which will allow you to switch from full use of the trem to a hardtail setup.

If you want a bridge that is simply better than the Edge III, oneblackend's suggestions are great. I just think you'd be better off with learning to setup the guitar properly and installing the tremel-no.

Shoot, unfortunately Ibanez doesn't have the new setup guide on their website. I don't know what it is about musical instrument manufacturers and having ****ty websites, maybe they think musicians can't afford internet access

This thread has good pictures of how it needs to be set up, and Ibanez's setup guide will tell you some basics.

If you truly NEED to get rid of the Edge 3 and switch to a hardtail, you could cut out 2 blocks of wood to fit the routes, and glue them in. Then drill holes for said Hardtail.

Of course, this is the most difficult path, but ultimately the most effective.

Also.. I'd be willing to by said Edge III from you (:
