Ok so I have an assignment to write about a song that has to do with one or more of the following topics:
Equality
Individual Worth
Individual Freedom
Majority Rule/minority rights
Compromise
Popular sovereignty

I was thinking either or RATM or SOAD or some other band that I can use an acronym for So....suggestions?

I dunno how you feel about them but 21 Guns - Greenday is pretty popular and pretty political.

Then again it's greenday.

And it's pretty cliche.

The more popular the better. Greenday has a lot of politically oriented music on American Idiot, and that album is arguably the most influential of the 21st century thus far.

I get extra credit for picking a song that no one else does their paper on, so I'm looking for something a little less mainstream than Green Day .

"2112" or "The Trees" by Rush. They are about real freedom, written by intelligent musicians, not angsty radicals.

Look at Neil Young and Bob Dylan.
There is a war going on for your mind.

If you are thinking, you are winning.

Pearl Jam has a few good political songs, World Wide Suicide being the most pointed, but you must want to look into them, just don't **** them up.

also found this nifty resource. has them grouped by category of content:

edit: also. for individual freedom, i GUARANTEE no one will pick this one:

screeching weasel - "my right"

I pretty much grew up on DKs. I have most of their albums and a few singles on vinyl. (I just wanted to mention that. ) Definitely great suggestion.

Majority of songs by The Clash have some sort of political undertone, if not an obvious political message.
Try-
White Riot
Career Opportunities
Complete Control
Safe European Home
English Civil War
Guns on the Roof
Clampdown
Know Your Rights
Straight to Hell
Capital Radio Two
Death or Glory

I think you need to stop caring what people think about it. I stayed home all day today and masturbated like 5 times. Fucking blast.

TS, I highly recommend that you do Blowin' In The Wind - Bob Dylan.

I don't think you're going to get much better than that. It's perfect for your assignment.

Refused - Deadly Rhythm
Quote by Refused
This union that made us powerless is talking over our heads
Claiming prosperity in a downward spiral plan
Stuck by the deadly rhythm of the production line
This power that made us unionless is taking out of our hands
Cheapest labour at our expensive cost, auctioned our lives away
We consume our lives like we are thankful for what we are being forced into
Is it our duty to die for governments and for gods ?
Is it our privilege to slave for market and industry ?
Is it our right to follow laws set to scare and to oppress ?
Is it our gift to stay in line and will it take away the blame ?
We can no longer pay the price
We'll get organised
We will no longer believe that working for you will set us free

*sigh* If only they would make fun music again instead of politically charged pop-crap.

21 guns has nothing to do about politics. Read the lyrics again, then watch the video.
