hey, i was looking for a few people who would help record a form of tribute cd of remixes of songs by some of the influental doom bands, mainly towards the more melodic doom scene. Wanted to do remixes of stuff by anathema, katatonia, opeth, candlemass, black sabbath, probably swallow the sun and draconian, and a few others, open to suggestions for bands and songs. Anyone interested???

Sounds like a good idea. Can't do a doom metal tribute without Paradise Lost and Celtic Frost included though.

Either "Forever Failure" or "Jaded" by Paradise Lost

Both are easy to play, and very melodic.

I'm interested. Reverend Bizarre is a must to cover, Doom at its best.
I've been working on my growling and I can work with either rhythm or lead guitar (better rhythm though)

yeah, i'm personally cool with that, i'm not the best growler in the world, and we could switch lines in songs or whatnot

I'll do bass, I can also mix the songs if you like (Im studying to be a sound engineer at university)
#21
that'd be great skitgraves

repost:

Anathema
Draconian
Swallow the sun
Katatonia
Paradise lost
Celtic frost
Opeth
Reverend Bizarre
Black Sabbath
Candlemass

Rythym Guitar: Jerry Brown, Orlando Diaz
Lead Guitar: Danny Heater
Vocals: Orlando Diaz (primary)/Danny Heater(secondary)
Bass/Mixing: Skitgraves
Drums: Jerry's friend

If there's no one who wants to do keys I might be able to take that up as well haha

could I suggest Skepticism or October Tide?

also how are we going to go about picking the songs? people suggesting a few and then a synonymous vote?

Celtic Frost to me seems more of a black metal inspiration rather than doom...I dunno it doesn't matter to me, however for the Draconian track who will do the female vocals? Anyhoo, I guess I'll start the suggestions list, and people should add to it so we have options

Anathema - Lovelorn Rhapsody
Draconian - pending
Swallow the sun - Deadly Nightshade
Katatonia - At Last
Paradise lost - gothic
Celtic frost - pending
Opeth - april ethereal?
Reverend Bizarre - not familiar
Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave
Candlemass - Bewitched
Skepticism - Antimony
October Tide - All Painted Cold
My Dying Bride - The Raven And The Rose

my gf said she'd do vocals for the draconian, and you forgot My dying bride again haha.
and yeah, i agree with you on celtic frost, i just had them in there because they were recomended. if were doing the other two bands we'll just take them out.

so i guess everyone just add on to the list and we'll decide eventually

Anathema - Lovelorn Rhapsody
Draconian - pending - scenery of loss - morningstar
Swallow the sun - Deadly Nightshade- swallow- out of this gloomy light
Katatonia - At Last - my twin
Paradise lost - gothic - forever failure
Opeth - april ethereal?
Reverend Bizarre - not familiar
Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave
Candlemass - Bewitched
Skepticism - Antimony
October Tide - All Painted Cold
My dying Bride - Raven and the rose +1

thats what comes to mind right now, probably some other ones...

fyi there's been a few requests for the Worship track Zorn A Rust-Red Scythe, they've got a hell of a cult following

sorry for disappearing for a few days, guys, had a scare over the flu recently. but i'm okay now.

anyways, here's what my suggestions:

Anathema - Lovelorn Rhapsody
Draconian - Morningstar x2
Swallow the sun - The Morning Never Came
Katatonia - anything off Brave Murder Day or Dance Of December Souls
Paradise lost - Rapture
Opeth - In The Mist She Was Standing - Demon OF The Fall
Reverend Bizarre - Burn In Hell!
Black Sabbath - Into The Void
Candlemass - Bewitched x2
Skepticism - Signs Of A Storm
October Tide - All Painted Cold x2
My dying Bride - The Raven and The Rose x2 or The Snow In My Hand

and if you guys want to, we can replace Reverend Bizarre with something else, i was hoping u guys would be familiar with them, but oh well.
#30
nah, they're pretty well known we can keep them, are you familiar with Worship by any chance?

also I think we're agreeing on Anathema, Draconian, Candlemass, October Tide, and MDB
#31
yeah, I know about Worship. I've had their album Dooom for the longest, but I think I only listened to it once or twice haha. I'm all for the Zorn cover.
#32
I'd quite like to do that Worship track.

Im not overly fussed what songs we do tbh, Im happy with all the suggestions so far.
#33
alright we'll add the worship track into the line up then.
So i guess now we just narrow down the other suggestions...

Swallow the sun - The Morning Never Came- Deadly Nightshade- swallow- out of this gloomy light
Katatonia - anything off Brave Murder Day or Dance Of December Souls
Paradise lost - Rapture- gothic - forever failure
Opeth - In The Mist She Was Standing - Demon OF The Fall- april etheral
Reverend Bizarre - Burn In Hell!
Black Sabbath - Into The Void- Children Of The Grave
Skepticism - Signs Of A Storm- antimony

this is what we have so far...

sounds awesome, I guess just keep suggesting things if anyone REALLY has a track they want but otherwise let's just narrow it down somehow, here's an updated list

Anathema - Lovelorn Rhapsody
Draconian - Morningstar
Swallow the sun - something off TMNC
Katatonia - no one's agreeing on anything
Paradise lost - forever failure/rapture
Opeth - april ethereal/demon of the fall
Reverend Bizarre - burn in hell
Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave/Into The Void
Candlemass - Bewitched
Skepticism - Antimony/Signs Of A Storm
October Tide - All Painted Cold
My Dying Bride - The Raven And The Rose
Worship - zorn a rust-red scythe

EDIT: dammit, jerry got it first w/e

Shall we have one song from each of those bands?
Then we can each pick which song we prefer from the list above
#36
right, that's what we're doing, I'm just not sure how we're going to do it, though it's fair to make sure everyone can actually play the songs we do pick, especially the drummer (no offense guys)
#37
Yes obviously, we've got to make sure everyones comfortable playing the songs.
I'd say singers more so than the drummer, but everyone needs to be able to play them so it doesnt really matter.

I personally can play anything you throw at me from this genre.

I'll have a good listen through all the songs tommorrow (its 1.30am here) and write up a list of which ones I like to play. ok?
#39
Ok so heres my choice out of those with multiple songs/undesided...

Swallow the sun - The Morning Never Came
Katatonia - Brave
Paradise Lost - Forever Failure
Opeth - April Ethereal
Black Sabbath - Children Of The Grave
Skepticism - Antimony
