1. 1493 Colombus found us.
2. 1797 The Brittish came and we proceeded to kick their ass all over San Juan.
3. 1898 Americans came, beat us and kept us for themselves.
4. 1952 We decided we didn't want to be a part of the US, but didn;t want to be independent either, so we got stuck in the middle.
5. 1999 We decided we liked getting coupons and federal grants and stuff, so we voted to stay the way we are. That sucks.

Other than that it's pretty boring.

5. the 1995 Quebec referendum

The rest I agreed with but I don't understand the big deal with the Quebecois wanting to leave Canada, I understand that some want to stay with Canada which is fine but why are we all so against people leaving the country? IMHO I don't think the referendum was all that important to Canada, although in all honesty there aren't many important events that Canada has sparked really so I guess putting it as number 5 makes sense

The local government act (1902?)was pretty important too no?

My history teacher was always going on about how it gave irish men political experience or when they took over the country

EDIT: That, and the treaty passed in westminister, cant remember the name, that allowed ireland to change laws made for them by England. Some time around 1926 if i remember correctly, which i probably dont.
