Mine's a 1985 Fender Contemporary model. There were many models in this series, I'm trying to find others with this rare piece of Fender history!

They were Made in Japan from 1984 to 1987.
Schaller (not Kahler as many believe) tremolos.
Thick neck heels.
Black headstock, sometimes all-black necks.
Fender-Japan tuners.
Side mounted barrel jack.
Headstock mounted locking nuts.
'F' knobs.
'E' serial numbers.

More info on request! I am a fountain of knowledge on these guitars!

You have no idea how good this guitar is, it's just mind-blowing. I choose it over my mid-range Ibanez RG4EX1 and my Dean Razorback. I choose it over an Ibanez ART320 (and that was seriously brilliant), a stock Highway One Strat, a PRS SE Standard (though it's not hard to beat them, they're crap), just about anything. Go on eBay and get your hands on one. You will not be disappointed. Make sure it's all stock though. I steer away from modded guitars like the plague.

Also, a great Lamb of God tone!

I think to beat it, you'd have to employ a good Gibson (at a push, go £2000+)or an Ibanez Prestige.

Though I hate to admit it, this was Fender jumping on the hair metal bandwagon. And I'm glad they did.

My first guitar still has residue from an unfortunate ranch dressing incident

I played this guitar once. It unleashed the ****ing fury and I got kicked out of Guitar Center.

Nice! I have a Jap Strat too, not one of the crazy metal type ones though. A 56' reissue, IIRC.

Heartfields were more of a RG clone by fender. The talon you saw recently was mine The body shape, pickup config, and neck pocket is very similar to the RGs in the late 80s early 90s, but with better components (OFR, Gotoh, Dimarzio) This 80s strat is more of a modified strat, with a strat neck joint, strat neck, etc.
