This site should reveal something about it http://www.big-muff.net/
If it's one of the "Ram's Head" Muffs then I'd be more than tempted to take the plunge, a lot of people believe them to be the definitive version, they're also a favourite of Dave Gilmour. I'd give it a try anyway because it may still not be for you, the ram's head muffs are supposedly a lot smoother than newer ones. But I'd also check what you can get for a similar price.
Fender MIM Telecaster (w/SD Little '59)
Boss DS-1
Electro-Harmonix Little Big Muff
Digitech EX-7
Marshall Echohead
Fender Pro Junior

its not a ramshead or the mk 2 as there known
it has the mk3 casing similar to that off the current muffs
but i heard they kept this casign for some of the mk 2 muffs before bringing in the mk 3

Go for it man. Great thing about older gear is that worst case scenario, you dont like it - you can sell it for the same as what you bought it for, maybe more.

That is exactly it. Go for it, I bet there are plenty of people who would bid like mad for something that is from 77.

Ebay is funny, lolz.
