So I recently aquired a Spector performer 4 string bass with the hopes of moding the heck out of the the body and installing some new pickups.
Its already got passive EMG humbuckers and spector tone pump jr. electronics, but I want active pickups and Im pretty much set on creating a new body for it.
My wood choice is Mahogany or Bubinga for major low mids, and my pickups will be Emg pj actives http://www.emginc.com/products/index/58/24/2 to really let the wood's tone shine through.
So, this being my first project EVER , I have some questions.
#1: What are some good places to get good soundwood for my project?
#2: What is the diffrence between the pj and the pj-x EMG combos?
#3: Do the pickups come with everything I need to instantly install them into my bass?

More questions to come, answers appreciated.

Never ever put HALP PLZ in your title.

1. Where do you live?
2. Well if you looked at EMG's website it would tell you. The pickup is different.
3. Yes they will.
#3

2. I looked but it didnt really tell me much. maby Ill look agin.
3. Ok thanks.

Ill be making a template to show you guys what it will look like.

That's why you should never put HALP PLZ in your thread title, I was very close to not helping you because it annoys me and makes me think you are some 12 year old kid trying to get attention.

Anyway, a quick google tells me that your on a small island around britain?

If your on an island I highly doubt that you would have any exotic woods sent there for retail sale, so your probably going to have to buy from the mainland and get it shipped to over to you. What tone you want, how much you want to spend, and what you have available will decide on what wood you can use. The body wood will probably cost you up to 70 or so GBP.

Well his profile says "Location : ellaville, Georgia, United States," so I think he meant south georgia in the United States (didnt even know that was an island), in which case it would be much easier to get exotic woods

Haha, I thought he meant the Georgia in the US too. I lol'ed when I read the reply about being on an island... Anyways, since it is in the US it makes things easy; there are a few ebay sellers that have wood and veneers, plus a ton of sites that sell body blanks. And depending on your area there may be a lumber yard or something around that sells the type of wood you're looking for.

You could post on UG during breaks, watch youtube videos, read up on some theory, watch porn, or any computer-related activities you enjoy. There are other options as well, such as TV, sexual intercourse, or even just take a snack and water break.

I had no idea where Georgia is, so I googled it and it told me that it was an island near Britain.

Sorry about the misconception. Its easy to forget that other people arent from my country on here.
I found some mahogany on Ebay but It didnt look thick enough. Here are the dimensions.
Size: Backs, 24"x9.25"x1/8"+(609x234x3.25 mm)
The only bubinga I could find was quilted and realy expensive. I can get this mahogony for about 100 dollars shipped.

Oh God, tame that shape. That would be the most awkward instrument to play. I like the concept, but shorten the horns, make them thicker, and round them a little, else you will probably break a horn off the first time you bump it.

Ebay is your friend when it comes to wood... but being in Georgia you should have some lumber yards around you, just google and check the phone book.

Well, this is just the basic idea. Im not the best in drawing things. Im looking for an organic but futuristic shape.

it isnt the HALP PLZ that makes me not want to help, it's the outright inability to use the searchbar to answer 2 of the 3 questions you asked. the 2nd question is easily answered by researching the manufacturers own site and/or google. you can even check the very link that you supplied to get the answer you seek.

I intended this to be like a whole build thread. Im not just asking a couple of questions, Im getting help on the whole thing, which will consist of more questions that I want diffrent answers on. I want someone to tell me, in their own way, what Im asking for. But I do see your point, and I admit that I didnt use the searchbar.

About a month away from 15, why?

Totally thought you were younger, and I was gonna burn you really bad.

Also, everybody chill the **** out. I'd be willing to bet that nearly all of you have made a thread like this one at some point, so do what everybody else did, and actually help. Some of you have, and that's awesome, but a good portion of you have just burned on the TS for two words.
