I've always wondered, what language do you think in?

I mean, UG is mostly, if not entirely in English so most of you must be fluent, but do you translate what you read into your own language or do you just know what they mean straight away?
#2
I'm German but grew up in the US most of my kid/teen years. I speak both languages perfectly (without an accent and with good grammar). I usually think in both languages, but it really depends on what I'm doing. If I'm talking to friends (German) I'll usually also think in German. Right now I'm thinking in English though.

I was born in Russia. I think in English most of the time, because I live in an english environment and speak english at school and on the internet (ie. most of the time)

However, when I go back to Russia, I find myself thinking in Russian.

Uh... English is obviously your only language...

When I'm reading a text on english I don't translate it to my native language, I just understand it. That's how it works.

When it comes to thinking... well, that's pretty colorful
#9
Mmm...it would take way too much time to translate into my native language. I just read and I get the concept without having to think about the meanings of words. Guess it doesn't differ from reading in my native language...

Hm weird.

When I see a word from another language I have to translate it to know what it means.

You obviously don't use that language enough to be truly fluent in it though, if you did and were you wouldn't have to... like I wouldn't consider myself to be fluent in german at all but I remember some of it from school and I don't have to think about translating the words I know, I just understand what they mean...

Im Finnish. I never use English IRL myself (except for english class). On the internet thought, or when watching TV without subtitles / comedy (where most of the jokes suck in finnish) i just listen to the english without transalating in my head. I also sometimes think in english :O . And once, i watched a movie (28 days later i think) and in the end a pilot said something in finnish and i didn't notice a difference i just heard it the same. Then my brother who watched the movie a bit later said they spoke finnish in the end.

I find myself thinking words and phrases in Irish sometimes.

One time, my brain was just idling and after a while I noticed that in my head I was descibing myself and where I live over and over again in French. The only time I've ever used French is French class, so I don't get that

My first language is Norwegian, and it's primarily used in my environment. However, my thoughts pretty much go 50/50 Norwegian/English. Not entirely sure why, I just prefer the versatility of English compared to Norwegian,

I live in Finland so I speak/think Finnish most of the time.
I studied in the U.S for about a year and a half so it forced me to greatly improve my English, but usually I find myself thinking in Finnish.
I don't know if that makes any sense, heh.

Whenever I speak/write/hear/read English I think in it, no need to resort to my native language. So when I'm on UG I think competely in English. It's part of being fluent, really.

It happens so much that when I have oral presentations in my Portuguese class (native) and have to mention proper names in English, I unawarely start talking in it.

My first language is Dutch, because I'm Belgian. But I think in english alot too.
Sometimes I think in french, because I speak it quite fluently.
