1 - lrn2link. yours is messed up because of the )? you added. leave a space.

2 - Not all that a big problem structurally.

3 - What's left behind (the thin area between the pickup cavity and the trem cavity can sometimes resonate more freely. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

4 - Less support for the pickguard is a significant issue. If it vibrates more freely, your pickups move, in relation to the strings. This is rarely a good thing.

5 - If you cut away only what's needed to provide a space for what you will use, not anything you might possibly use, you get more predictable results.
