Yesterday my mum came home with a pleasant surprise. She generally is that kinda person that picks up stuff people put out on the street and normally it irritates me just because we end up getting more useless junk which we don't need, this time however she brought something cool.

An old record player!

I always thought it would be cool to own one and the fact that most people say that vinyls sound better only sweetened the deal. It looks like it would have been kind of expensive when it was new because it has quite a few features, i expect it to be from the 80's or something. It's a little rough around the edges but my mums Alice Cooper and Little River Band records seemed to work fine so now i want more.

Now before you give the the old "cool story bro", there actually is a question:

What are some good classic vinyl records to get for it? I've already thought of Led Zeppelin II and The Wall/Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd and a 'tallica album.

Any suggestions guys?

No but i don't think i would have enough money to buy a lot of them. I don't even know how much they cost here but i'm guessing that they're not cheap. Also i haven't heard Rubber Soul before so i'm not sure i would want to buy that over albums with songs i prefer (not that i could ever dislike the Beatles mind you).

granted, the bob dylan album is not his best but it was a good price

but is it just rank you dislike, or the smiths in general?

I have no idea why, but Let it Be by The Beatles sounds incredible on vinyl, more so than other vinyl.

i have to be honest - i was just checking my ebay account, when i saw it with <1 minute. instinct took over and it was mine

bloody impulse purchases

and what was it doing in my ebay? i have all the studio albums through different sources. i knew rank was a live album (although i had to check the tracklisting after i bought it), which i didn't own or hadn't listened to

nearly got hunky dory by bowie off ebay today

no-one had bid so, including postage, it was £4.50.

30 seconds left, was going to place my bid at 20 secs. within that timeframe, he takes the record off!

i sent him an angry email

EVERY beatles album, especially abbey road, rubber soul, revolver, and sgt pepper.

i don't enjoy RHCP a bunch, but Californication sounds MUCH better on vinyl than cd. terribly compressed on cd, but not on the vinyl releases.

floyd, zeppelin, most classic rock is good. yardbirds would be pretty sweet.

whats your favorite music recorded before 1995?
Vinyl was the main source of music up until cd's started to take over, 8 tracks and cassettes certainly did not catch on like cd's and now mp3s

soo... I'm not even going to try to give you a list of the essential vinyl's to any collector's collection, too many, but here's a start https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1174858
