I'll give to examples

Blue Oyster Cult
"Dont Fear the Reaper"-much better songs that they made

The Scorpions
"Rock you like a Hurricane"-Same
#2
Rise Against blew up because of Swing Life Away. So many fans have never heard of the two albums before Siren Song.

Scorpions have tons of great songs their known for. Rock you like a hurricane was just on guitar hero.

Scorpions are my favorite band.

Pretty much any decent band with a big hit. The hit is usually the most easily accesible song and therefore the most poppy which is generally their worst.

But seriously, QOTSA 3's and 7's/No One Knows

I think "Don't fear the reaper" and "Rock you like a Hurricane" are both really good songs. Yes, I have heard the bands' other stuff.

On the other hand, it seems that a lot of people consider themselves to be big fans of Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Guns n' Roses having only heard "Under the Bridge" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"

There are other RHCP songs besides Under the Bridge?

It was the same for Prayer of the Refugee. I would say to people, "Oh, you heard Like The Angel or Heaven Knows?" and they'd be like "Huh?"

chevell-the red, great cd, i have no idea why the whole cd wasnt played on the radio

Zappa-Valley Girl/Dancin' Fool
Herbie Hancock-Rockit

Meh, all I can think of right now.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Zappa will be remembered more for sitting on a toilet than for anything else.

I had to disprove so many people's theories in my hometown after Swing was released. Everyone just knew Rise were an acoustic "pussy emo band". I'm like, Stained Glass and Marble, what the...?

I agree with most of that sentiment, although I think Welcome to the Jungle or Sweet Child O' Mine would be more believable choices, they're on more than Knockin' on Heaven's Door

Reel Big Fish- Sell Out

And yea, Rise Against's first two albums are amazing.

EDIT: For those that have heard At The Drive-In, usually all they like is One Armed Scissor, amazing song, but they have others people. In/Casino/Out is probably their best album.

With Queen, people mostly just know We Will Rock You and, to a lesser extent, Bohemian Rhapsody. Sure, they might recognize some other songs, but they usually won't know what band is playing them.

Where I live it was Give It All.
Kinda heard of RA BEFORE Siren Songs (listening to Like the Angel at school etc) but it wasn't until I heard Paper Wings on Burnout: Takedown that I bought all their albums.
