so i got a new laptop today. It's vista. And now I'm in my house, the wi-fi is fine on this computer but right beside it is my new one and it can connect to the network fine. But it says limited connectivity and it cant connect to the internet. I have a router and the computers go through that into the internet. How do i fix this?

turn off the router, wait about 10 seconds, then turn it on again, always works for me

Access your router settings by typing you ip address into your browser, you'll have to do it using your working computer.

Put your mac address of your computer into the router allow settings, that might help. And no, a mac address isn't anything to do with apple workstations.

^^ Those are a bit vague, but have a look about it might work. I'm not a tech wizard.

Right click on the wi-fi icon and go to repair. if that does not work....

right click on my computer and go to manage->go to device manager-> network adapters-> then right click on the wireless adapter and uninstall-> right click on network adapters and scan for hardware changes-> put in the wi-fi key-> see how it runs if that doesn't work...

do you have any type of mac address filtering?

what the guy said above me is talking about mac address filtering. don't do that unless you know you are using it and you don't block anyone else that is on the wi-fi network that needs to be on there.

run the repair i told you then uninstall and reinstall the wifi adapters driver. if that does not work we know it is not your OS and we can move on to hardware.

Try resetting your router. On the back of the router there should be a reset button accessible by the tip of a pen. Hold the reset for 15-30 sec or until lights flash. This will erase User and Password settings and you should connect to the router using an Ethernet cable.

If it's a Linksys, open your browser and type http://192.168.1.1. to access your router settings.

call up your internet provider and they will walk you through the setup in the router, you may need to enter a MAC address into the router to get things going

Vista is terrible. I'm not jumping on the band wagon i have it and hate it. None of my software is compatible with it. The only thing I like is the presentation.

I had a problem like this and went and disabled IPv6 and two other things near it and it worked fine...
