hey ug

today at school at lunch, me and my mate got into a debate about some guitar stuff
it started of with him telling me that the intro to a new level is played with a tremlo....(idoit)
but thats another story

anyway we got talking about pedals and he said that the Boss MT-2 is the best distortion pedal ever made. i however disagreed and said that "their is no best distortion pedal, it's what you like, it's what sounds good to your ears.... "anyway he kept on going on about how this pedal was god-like, and me being a regular user of this awesome forum and many others knows how bad the mt-2 really is (discarding my statemant above) and said to him look the mt-2 sucks, its mid range is garbage and it sounds to tinny with a wierd fuzz to go with it. i said if you have a good enough amp then really for home use you shouldn't need a distortion pedal anyway, i went on to say that if you do need a distortion pedal try out a metal muff or (if used correctly)
then maybe a fullbore metal. all the people around us agreed with him. they all called me stupid and an idiot. my "friend's" explanation for him knowing so much more then me is that he has been playing for 7 years, where as i haven't been playing for 6 months yet. so somehow he, because he has been playing so long. knows everything.

please start your post with good or bad and then leave a comment or explanation if you wish, so i can easily see what other people think about this pedal, and also print it out and take to school, so i can call all my "Friend's" idiots

Thanks

your friend is allowed to love a pedal you know...

you can still be friends...
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

learn how to spell; don't rant; and people can have opinions.

get over yourself.

it's a decent pedal IMO, a little noisy but still good. Doesn't work with a Fender G-DEC too well though heh... found that out the hard way

i've always found pop to be harder to play than metal... especially shred metal... it's just really fast tremolo picking and the occasional palm mute... and the only chords you have to worry about are power chords...

i appreciate his opinion, it was just how he was so aragent about it and as soon as i opened my mouth he came at me like a ton of bricks

No, I don't think so. His friend likes a pedal that he doesn't.

I just don't see how their friendship can be saved.

dude. if you're still at school right now; get off UG and study some spelling words.

and just deal with it; some people are ignorant. you are coming off a bit that way by your spelling and grammar errors, but it seems your friend assumes too much stuff without considering another pedal.

either way; deal with it. threads in this forum aren't really meant for ranting about friends.

Although i dont really see the point in you guys telling him not to rant and indeed then Ranting at him and being completely hypocritical i have to agree with you the MT-2 is not an awful pedal its actually fairly versitile however it doesnt quite get the tonal range alot of people look for, boss do make some of the best pedals available in my honest opinion specially if you mod them however id choose me stock 1st series DS-1 over a MT-2 anyday.

I use the MT-2 with the gain almost all the way down with an Ibanez TS9. Makes a great blend. And I've been playing for 10 years.

I think the mt-2 is good for lead medal parts, its good for highs. I wouldn't suggest using it for chug riffs or rhythm parts. I think it lacks power in the low range. But its still a decent pedal. And you and your friend are immature morons for bickering about something so incredibly stupid. Seriously, an opinion is an opinion, nothing more.

Cool story bro.

No offense but I doubt you yourself can differentiate between good and bad tone yet because your ear isn't developed. Yes, the stock MT-2 isn't that great, but when used right, it can sound decent. However, a Monte Allums modded one will completely rip apart a Metal Muff, and the mod costs ~$20.

It is an awesome pedal, with true bypass and quality capacitors. I assume he wasn't talking about a modded MT-2 though.

Stock, I'm not a big fan either. But I have learned that usually voicing your opinion just leads to trouble. I have a buddy whose new roommate is getting into metal, he was listening to Divine Heresy or something, and I simply said I thought it was too melodic, that the vocals suck, and that the drummer is great. He was driven mad by this. It's like "what? it is metal! not much different from the Crypopsy you love so much" I have another friend that is pissed that I recommended him the Vypyr, because Line 6 specializes in modelling so the Spider must be better.

Sometimes you just gotta let things be man, people are touchy and stupid.

Seriously dude get over yourself. There is no good or bad gear - its all about your personal opinion. Something that doesn't work for you or sound good to your ears may be the perfect piece of gear for someone else' rig.

Also, this is borderline trolling and this thread is nothing but phail.

Ok I just realized this....

You and your friend were fighting over a Boss Metal Zone Pedal?

wow Obama is in office and with all his handouts people don't have bigger things to worry and debate about!

I'm guilty of being tone deaf with a Metal zone for 2 years... more less trying to polish a turd but I eventually wised up and bought a Marshall Vintage Modern that suited what I was trying to get for many years.

But the point is the Metal Zone is junk... maybe not for metal but its lifeless and most people will tell you that.

I refuse to believe that there is no wrong way because there is a wrong way... thats like saying its ok to kill a person because most of the populations opinion doesn't count... reality check time: it does!

Your bud using a metal zone he mine as well be killing someone because its killing my ears.

The thing is he's asking whats best...

I think we should be able to vote on it, we eventually some day might have to have our ears butchered by bad tone. And he's asking whats not going to do that.

Welcome to the world of opinions TS... you just opened up a can of worms and whoop-ass on yourself.

If there're 2 lessons here they are...

1. don't share your opinion, until you're asked for it. - I can't remember who said it
2. Let others do the talking, then you find out how much of an idiot they are - Jackie Chan

Now stop bickering and go play yer guitar.
