I know there's a rule on posting more than two covers, but i feel if it's in the same thread it should be ok? i just want some critiques on my vocals, it's not even about the covers, i just have a lot so you can choose what you want to listen to..

basically my lead singer said i definitely could carry the band we're in if i wanted to...but i don't personally think i'm at frontman level just yet vocal-wise...but i think i could potentially get there. But i think we're thinking of doing a switch off type-deal where he sings lead on some songs and I sing lead on some songs...like uh The Beatles.

so i'm just wonderin what some of you think...and for anyone with vocal experience, maybe some tips, some things you hear i'm doing wrong or something? Guitar playing or song structure/messups are not the deal here, these are not supposed to be legitimately perfect covers. just want some critiques on my vocals.

Here's a list of the songs i recorded in order...from last to first, all in one take each, back to back, today. so take your pick.

26- Radiohead- Motion Picture Soundtrack
24- 311- I'll Be Here Awhile
23- Jack Johnson- Upside Down
18- Radiohead- Airbag
16- Radiohead- Exit Music
15- Jason Mraz I'm Yours
14- Muse- Plug In Baby (only up to chorus)
13- Radiohead- I Will
11- Green Day- Good Riddance
10- Radiohead- Lucky
9- Radiohead- Climbing Up the Walls
7- Radiohead- Karma Police
6- Eagle Eye Cherry- Save Tonight
5- Coldplay- Viva La Vida
4- Radiohead- Street Spirit
3- The Beatles- Girl
2- Radiohead- Fake Plastic Trees
1- Radiohead- You and Whose Army?

You're not ready yet.

Your natural range is higher, yet those are the notes you struggle to hit more. In Save Tonight you were way too low(in terms of notes, not volume) for your voice, belt that song out... Don't just sing it as low as you possibly can. Then in I'm Yours you REALLY struggled with the high notes. I'm baritone, yet I can hit those notes with ease, so they shouldn't be a problem for you.

Please, don't take this as me bashing you, just trying to be honest. Your biggest issue is a lack of confidence in your voice. You don't feel you can hit certain notes, or that you are going to struggle for them, so you can't. Keep at it though, you can def get there if you work at it.

really appreciate your input!

I thought I sung Save Tonight like he does in the song? whether or not my range is more tailored or w/e to a higher register, that's the register the vocals in the actual song are isn't t?

and i feel like i'm straining when i go for those high notes in I'm Yours, i don't see how my voice can get there, what i'm saying is, you say it's in my range, but i feel it's almost out of my range...

anything else you noticed? I feel i did best on the Radiohead songs.

You did sing Save Tonight like him, but you lacked any kind of power, which is a tell-tale sign that your voice is more suited to a higher range. And the straining can be lack of range, bad technique, lack of knowledge on HOW to sing... Bad breathing control. Just gotta be patient and don't expect miracles overnight.

well that's the thing, i've been trying to sing and singing to songs since i was like 10 or 11. I'm 20 now. I think i should be much better than this.

Maybe you're not meant to be a singer, not everyone is. There is nothing wrong with that. Stick to guitar and harmonies. No shame in that man, not at all.
