... And then drove off. But I'm kinda worried about it.

I didn't hit it too hard or anything. After it happened I got out of the car and checked both vehicles for damage but didn't see any... with the exception of a piece of the other car lying on the floor. But I dunno if that's a big deal. It was just the thing that goes on the back for tying trailers and stuff to... but that just clips on, right?

Anyway I waited for a while just in case the owner came back (didn't have a pen to leave a note) and when they didn't return for a while I went about my errands quickly, and when I returned the other car (and the part) were both gone.

Should I be worried? I only passed my test this month and I don't want to get suspended already on a hit and run charge But seeing as the damage wasn't that bad am I good?

I don't know if there was cctv or anything, it was only a small place. And other people did see it happen but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't report it seeing as I stopped and waited rather than driving straight off.

...Cool Story Bro

Anyway, thoughts / similar experiences?

tl;dr : hit another car and didn't leave a note, damage wasn't bad but I am still nervous.

You shouldn't have driven off. It was stupid, irresponsible and dangerous.

You deserve to lose your license.

man if they figure out it was you ur screwd. if u didnt want to wait for the driver to get to his car you should have left a note on his car with your name and phone number as well as your insurence providers.

I did the same thing before.
I got away with it, but thats because no one was around. Should of at least left a note.
The good times are killing me.

The other driver may have assumed the towbar fell off for some reason, or that someone had in fact knocked it off but as there was no other damage just didn't bother waiting.

That's a bit harsh dude. Yeah he should of stuck around until the owner came, but he did at least make the attempt to wait instead of immediately driving off like a dick.

Technically they drove off first.

well, no... you drove off first and when you came back they were gone. what, were they gonna wait for someone to come back and say "oh yeah, sorry brah that was me"?

you did stay for a little so that's good i suppose, but you should have looked in the stores or something and gotten the person paged.

you probably will get away with it and some dude is probably real pissed cause someone did a HIT AND RUN because that's what it is.
fck.

You don't know if there's a cctv around? I looked at your location, and saw England, and was like, "are you serious?". You guys are the most watched and tracked people on Earth.

Expect a missle to be entering your living room window very soon.

I hit someone backing in once because of those stupid trailor hitches. The idiot was parked about a foot over the line and as I was backing in I bumped into his hitch which was about an extra foot off his bumper. Luckily there was no damage, as I didn't hit it hard.

Ok, that's nowhere near as bad then.

Given new evidence, I concede that in this instance, that would be harsh.

Doing a hit and run and not having any balls at all to own up, however, WOULD be a c*ntish thing to do.

I sympathize as you're new to driving... I might have been the same way or not known what i should do being 16... but it doesnt sound like you tried hard enough to leave a note.. if it were me i wouldve went into the nearest establishment(possibly the place you were parked) and borrowed a pen... But like I said, i might have reacted in the manner about 7 years... All we can do is learn from all of these occurrences.. Good Luck.

Stop driving. I'm tired of people who can't drive hitting my car in parking lots. Nice amount of dents in the bumper....

but now they're gone. Because they left notes or waited til I came

It's all a learning experience though. Don't feel bad about it but DON'T HIT ANY MORE CARS and if you do STICK AROUND. Lol

I did this once. I just scratched some paint on the other car (and my car). Nothing happened. It was an old, rusty car anyway, so I they probably didn't even notice.

Towbars come off anyway, right?

Normally it would still be intact if you didn't hit it too hard so..
And even if it wasn't supposed to come off..

you gave the owner of the car a nice new feature for his towbar

Don't worry man, and besides, the owner of the car probably thought the person responsible already drove off, and would probably not have suspected that it could be your car that bumped into him

Here in Canada you can't get in trouble for hitting anybody in a parking lot. It's private property, not public, so it's use at your own risk.

Good grief. You should get your licence taken from you. Parking isn't difficult.

But this is a very good point. I've never hit a parked car, been driving 6 years. Don't know, but you seem like an unsafe driver

TS, let me relate to you a story.

A few weeks after I had received my full driver's license, I still kinda sucked at driving, and I was trying to turn around in a parking lot, and I hit one of the parked cars. I freaked out and drove away. Never had to pay a dime.

Fast forward to some time later. I still apparently suck at driving, because I smacked into a parked SUV. This time, I wrote my name and phone number and put it on his windshield. Ended up costing me $550.

Moral of the story:
Hit and run = free
Being a good citizen = costs you $550.

You did the right thing, TS. I'm proud of you.

Yeah, that's illegal. I always keep a disposable camera and a notepad in my car in case I'm involved in an accident, so I have a way of a. passing my details to another driver b. take photos to prove it wasn't my fault. I've never had one though, so...

Yeah, at the expense of causing someone else to pay for damages that you caused, not only is this both being a dick and being irresponsible, but it's illegal. I really hope the insurance people find about this for both of you.

Yeah, this!
If I came back to my car and the whole side had been crushed in my rage would be uncontrollable. Not only are you ruining someone's expensive car, you are shaving hundreds off the resell value, and making them pay for your fuck up.

Infact, it makes me angry just thinking about it. *twitches curtains to check car*
