The Sheikh thread got me thinking about this. Do you think it should be a right or a privilege to have free speech? Ought there to be limitations on it? Or should all forms of speech, be it constructive or simply hateful/fanatic/etc., be allowed?

Also, sorry if this should be in the politics thread or something...

The freedom to express yourself, yes.
The freedom to harass others or use your speech to cause harm of any kind, no.

But where should it stop, if it ever should? Surely there's comes a point where it causes more harm than good, so Ur All $hit's answer was pretty on the ball.

free speech is free speech I agree.. once it becomes a privilege it's not really free.. I agree that people use free speech to harm and harass others but I don't feel this is a reason to take free speech away from them

I believe in free speech more so than I believe in the ability to control free speech, without abuse or corruption.

Once again Ur all $h1t has the right idea.

I'm pretty on the fence about this issue. There are too many who abuse their right to free speech, examples being racists, the ultra-religious and the ultra-conservatives. The problem lies in the fact that history proves that disastrous things happen when something as simple as freedom of speech is taken away. But the issue about it is that it is hard to define the line between controversial opinion and hate-mongering abuse of rights.

This.
But the second part should not be misinterpreted with logical criticism, which many butthurt bastards or oversensitive bags of dicks calls harassment.

This. Kind of.
"Causing harm" is kind of generalized; considering that different people are hurt by different things. Expressing yourself specifically with the end of hurting another person; as that Sheik guy did; is wrong though.
