I am looking at electrical parts for a steampunk style SG guitar that I am building. I was wondering, what Potentiometers shall i get? Longer LP style ones with 10mm shafts or shorter strat style 6mm ones?
Thanks

What are your plans for the thickness of the wood above the control cavity?
Or will your pickguard extend over a front-routed control cavity?

On a pickguard or going through a thin wood, short shafts will work fine.
If the wood is thick, you'll obviously need the long shafts with long bushings.

Most guitars you can get away with the short shaft pots. They even work in some LPs.
