I usually wipe down my strings after playing, but recently I've installed Elixir nanoweb-coated strings. Now that got me thinking...would wiping the Elixir strings with my microfiber cloth wear the coating faster than usual? Should I just leave my strings dirty? :P

Thanks

Even if it does, it's not like strings are hella expensive.

Well Elixirs are almost 15 USD a set where I'm living . With normal strings like Ernie Ball's my strings last no more than 2 or 3 weeks.

Do they break in 2-3 weeks or just sound like shit?

The latter. They rust till the tone is compromised.

Well new strings every 3 weeks is only a week short of when most people replace strings anyway.
