Stoner/doom band from Oakland. Their newest album, God is Good, is without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best albums I have ever heard. Their other stuff is very good as well, particularly Variations on a Theme and Conference of the Birds.

Thoughts? Any other fans?

Om are fantastic. Conference of The Birds is one of my favourite albums ever. Managed to get it on vinyl a while ago

I've still not got God is Good but I'm looking forward to it.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

Great band!

Picked up Conference and Variations on vinyl a few weeks back, money well spent. The local record store has the other two as well, but i foolishly squandered my paycheck drinking and drugging. Dammit

I love them. I think every band members of Sleep founded after their break-up is great.

EDIT: Wait, I just realized that this only includes High on Fire and Om. Whatever. They both rule in very different ways. Om is just beautiful...

Conference of the Birds = legendary.

Great photos, I would love to see them live at least once.

Amazing stuff, relaxes me so much. I may retorrent it because I don't think it has everything, but it has a couple of songs played live in Jerusalem, which are excellent.

2 shows in Israel, one in Tel Aviv, another in Jerusalem.

Tel Aviv show was 3 hours, Jerusalem 5 hours.

I first heard them only a month later. I wanted to die.

People who were there told me it was amazing in a practically religious sense.
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

I think he meant to say that he "first listened to them only a month later".

Really sucks for you, deady, I remember the same thing happening to me when Meshuggah and Cynic came here, back then I didn't know about them. When I finally had checked both bands out, I wanted to punch myself for not knowing them at the right time.

Right, well, listened to their whole discog today, fell in love with the band and found the record store near uni has COTB and God Is Good, which I shall buy tomorrow, hell yeah.

Good for you Conference is an astounding album, so much beauty and heaviness condensed into 33 minutes...
Have you listened to the Gebel Barkal single and their two split releases as well?

No... good point, only full lengths. But Conference was one of the most enjoyable aural experiences ever, it will probably get a huge amount of plays this week. I don't know why I waited so long to start listening to these guys, some of the most interesting, but simple, music i've heard.

Well said.

I might add that I love The Promise of Snakes and that its cover is one of my favorites.
So much great music in this thread.

TAP (lol TAP) get far too little love around here, always good to see a fan . I wish more bands sounded like them .

I love Al's vocals. Very chant-like. I need to buy one of their albums.

I haven't heard a single band that sounds like TAP (olol). I suppose Jesu gets somewhat close, but other than that...

Jesu and Nadja (on certain albums), but yeah, still not really close enough .

Anyway, that Om band, pretty awesome.

Indeed.
I'm in the middle of Thebes right now. Looking back at how they sounded on Variations, their sound has considerably evolved: they have added all these new instruments, nuances etc. and of course, Chris isn't in the band anymore. This makes me wonder what the next album will sound like.

Pilgrimage has finally connected to me. I've always seen it as the lesser of the three albums with the 'classic' line-up, but as of today, my view of it has considerably changed.

Sometimes I am a very happy person, and this is one of those times.

I caught Om live a couple months ago. Absolutely Phenomenal. The guy that is Lichens also played with them. I'd never heard of Lichens before but he was one of the most impressive performers I've ever seen. I just wrote out a huge paragraph trying to describe this show but figured it would ultimately fail. The energy in that room was unlike any other setting I've been in...Was only maybe 30 - 50 people at the gig.

Oh yeah, was only 30 bucks as well. 40 if you count the acid tab I dropped at the beginning of Lichens set...I need a ****ing time machine to experience that shit again!!!

Me and my friend agreed we'd pay a few hundred if we could see that show again.

EDIT: for grammar
