I am interested in getting a peavy amp and was wondering what would be recommended? I play metal and hard rock (specifically sabbath, metallica, maiden, zeppelin ect.) and I have a boss metal zone pedal. So, how is the Peay ValveKing 112 against the Peavy 6505? Is the 6505 worth the extra money?

Also I would like some opinions on the Vox Valvetronix VT50, I noticed it says "real tube power amp sound." What exactly does this mean?

Feel free to make any other recommendations.

There are plenty of other Peaveys to choose from. I have a Classic 50 and it is the tits.
Sweeping is for n00bs. I've moved on to vacuuming. Eventually I'll even try steam cleaning.

Why Peavey specifically? And the Vox has a single preamp tube, which really doesn't do anything, don't pay attention to it. If you play metal I've heard things about the 6505, but I don't play metal so I don't really know.

The 6505 smokes the Valveking, in every way IMO. The Valveking is a entry-level tube amp. Get the 6505. It's perfect for metal and hard rock.

The tube in the Vox is a gimmick. With hybrids amps, generally get the ones with a tube power amp section. However, the Vox is still IMO a good amp, but if you play the brootal side's of metal I wouldn't not get it.

I just got an email saying my 6505 1X12 should be shipping soon. They are now arriving in stock in some places. Maybe get that one?

Try to look for a deal on a used JCM 800 combo. Perfect for trash.

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

This is true. I missed this part in the original post. If that's as heavy as you want to go, the VK would be decent for you. It does hard rock/classic metal well and would probably be better for Zeppelin and old Sabbath.

New, look at the Vypyr 60, new 6505+ combo, or maybe the B52 AT60. Valveking would work if you are willing to spend some more money and mod it.

My modded Valveking does Maiden/Sabbath/Zeppelin pretty well.

I'm planning on getting some new tubes though.

A Celestion 30 in it makes it sound pretty good.

wow, thanks for the list.
I will definetly check this stuff out and I really appreciate the help.

No problem. Just wanted you to see there is other stuff all around you that might work better on a budget and the 4 bands you listed really don't use Peavey IIRC. Although Peavey does make good entry level tube amps that are fairly versatile and can get the job done.

what is trash? Do you mean thrash? The 6505 will do you fine if you're on a budget. Valveking would work but you would need a od to give in that extra push.

Will preamp tubes turn black and melt slightly undernormal conditions and still work?
