I just sold my madison divinity I and im looking for a new tube head. Ive got around 1200 dollars to spend and im looking for a head that has really crunchy distortion and really nice cleans. Sounds that im interested in are Architects distortion, and BTBAM, The number 12 looks like you cleans.

I currently have a mesa 4x12 cab that i would run in through.

I also use a lot of pedals including line 6 dl and fm 4 boss dd6 and ibanez tube screamer turbo.

any suggestions?

I don't know where in Ohio you are or much about those bands you listed but here is a start.

If you tell me what your closest city is and if you prefer British, American or German voiced amps I might be able to help a little further.

If you had to have a new amp I'd look at the Peavey 3120 - should sound great with your cab.

I found these on craigslist, which is personally what I would be doing if I were you.

Mesa Boogie DC-10 and cab $850

Laney AORII 50w head stack $1100

Splawn SuperStock head $1200

Peavey 5150 head $800 (seems a bit high)

Marshall JCM800 2210 $900

Marshall JCM2000 TSL60 $950 (seems a bit high)

+1 to a new 3120, will definitely give you the gain you need, while keeping the cleans you need. If you want to save a few bucks, look for a used XXX (pretty much the same amp as the 3120...just different tubes coming from the factory).

I posted this just a bit ago in another thread:

The Peavey's generally have a voicing that is opposite the Marshall, Orange, Splawn scenario. Now, the XXX with EL34's would be something to talk about and would save you some cash. Stock, with the 6L6s don't have quite as much gain and grunt as 6505+ in my opinion stock. They are considered 'brighter' than a 6505 if that helps. The new 3120 is a XXX basically with EL34s shipped $999.

The XXX, JSX, Splawn and Marshalls will have nice cleans. If you don't care about cleans and just want the br00talz then get a 6505, Rockerverb or Splawn.

There is a tone difference between EL34 power tubes and 6L6 power tubes for example. Part of your decision I think is nailing down the tone you want more. American or British? Or German?

I actually look at other cities' craigslist more than my own. For health reasons

We've seen some absolutely astounding Mesa amps NAD their way thru here - those are always diamonds in the rough. DCs, F50 etcs, Nomad?, old Rectoverb combos etc.

If you want a seriously killer amp with serious offers from people just like you get to know the various Gear Sales Threads. Forms are a good media me thinks because the feedback is pretty immediate and people have reputations. yo
