Hey all,
i'm new to the forums on this website, so bare with me, or help me out if i am posting in the wrong place for this sort of thing.
i'm looking for a good mixer or interface for recording my band through my laptop, which is a PC.
some requirements i have are:
firewire compatable (lower latency with firewire vs. usb2.0 from what i hear)
8 mic inputs (preff. ADAT)
8 preamps (lol durr)
around $400 (hopefully**, feel free to suggest stuff that's within a reasonable range above that)
i don't need midi, multiple monitor mixes, or built in effects.

i plan to be recording everything mainly just with mics. probably the most tracks that will be recorded at once is 4.
i was looking at something like an Alesis Multimix8 Firewire...until i found out they were discontinued.

any help would be appreciated,
thanks in advance! =]

I have the Alesis iO|14 firewire interface and its pretty good, mine has four analogue inputs and ADAT, there's another one in the series with 8 analogue and 2 ADAT ins, which is like, 24 channels if you have a couple of ADAT preamps, so plenty of room for expanding later. The preamps are fair quality too and i think its in your price range...

Oh, and its firewire

yeah the Alesis io/26 was lookin pretty good to me too when i was checking this stuff out this week.
it's good to hear someone can vouch for it.

and i've heard from everyone i know who is experienced with recording that USB has big latency issues with multi-track recording.
i don't have a firewire connection on my laptop though aha. so that gameplan is to grab me an PMCCIA Firewire Adapter from somewhere.

Not really, especially not with 2.0 (USB 2.0 is faster than Firewire 800)
